Cooling Problems
Discussion
Hi All
I cooked my car about a week ago in traffic on a hot day. The coolant boiled out of the expansion tank.
Since then the guage has been reading higher temp (was 90-105, then 100-115).
I risked a trip to Brighton over the weekend and same again - cooked in traffic. I'm assuming that i've picked up some air in the system as it got progressively worse over the 40 or so miles home - nursed home with several stops!
I was going to start with a drain and refill of the coolant (haven't done this since i've had the car) so can anyone recommend a decent coolant to use when I
refill the system? I understand i'll need to bleed and check many times!!!!

i just had the same problem but have resolved it.
i used unipart antifreeze/summer coolant about 6 to 7 litres.i have a 4.5 so i think its the same for the 4.2.Drain the system by taking off a a lower hose under the panel, fillup with the coolant but keep a little for the expansion tank.fill with water taking out the bleed nut on top of the rad on the offside (15mm).when no air comes out lock off ,start the engine with the heater on and blower on,open the bleed valves on the top rails by the cylinder heads,on the 4.5 they are in recesses under the air boxes, they can be undone using long nose pliers without taking off the air boxes, allow the air to come outand keep filling the system at the same time .Fill expansion bottle to ridge,if you dont airlocks will occur in the top rails leaving the top of the heads starved of regular cooling .Turn off engine go back to the rad bleed ,loosen and squeeze the hose on the other side of the rad to extract any last air ,then restart car and again bleed the rails, top up.
Last thing go on e bay ,jools does the ecu to bring the fan cut in temp lower
If you have the 4.5 induction kit it is already in the chip as i found out.
On friday i sat in a queue on the m25 in the heat for well over an hour ,engine running all the time no problems at all ,guage never went above 95 but remember it inaccurate by about 10 degrees too high. good luck ,paul
