Alcudia - Anyone been ?
Discussion
We - wife two kids and daughters pal- went to Alcudia 10/12 years ago and liked it. Huge beach stretches for miles, old town was nice with a typical market once a week, generally quite clean from memory.
It was a while back but my recollections of the place are all pretty good but then we were in a all inclusive deal with the use of three different hotel facilities.
Sept will be getting toward the end of the season so not too busy I wouldn't have thought, though if you are toward the end of Sept some places might be winding down.
Good Luck

Just come back from a Villa midway between Alcudia and Peurta Pollenca (sp?). The other poster is right, Pollenca end is much nicer.
Alcudia has plenty going on but it does resemble a Brit seaside resort. I was talking to some people who were staying in one of the complexes and they said it was loud and the food was s
te. Doesn't mean they're all bad of course but I'd still try and stay away from the main strip that runs beside the beach.

Just come back from Puerto Pollenca on Saturday, we picked up many brits in Alcudia and I can say we seem to have made the right choice, it does look a little Brit "man made" but the families staying in Alcudia also said they wished they stayed in Pollenca, too many pissed up Brits,Scots,Welsh and Irish and crappy food.
Can you go on the second week of September instead? The schools will be back then & wherever you go will be both a lot cheaper & a lot less crowded...
ETA. The weather will be fine at that time of year. We went during the first week of September a couple of years ago & it was beautiful weather. plus, the sea has really warmed up by then

hmmm it looks just a touch out my price range as wanted a real cheapie (circa £300), main reason of the holiday is the beach though and the beach in Alcudia does look fairly decent
Do some more research on cost before you decide, I found the beaches charge 11 euros a day for two lounges and a wicker umbrella type thing, of course no charge if just on beach towles. We found the food very expensive, in and out of resort, approx 40-50 euros per meal for a family of three with drinks (couple of Gin and Tonics, coke etc). Even the supermarkets can be expensive, just dont think its going to be a cheapy. I was looking for a similar deal ended up paying 1.5k for half board for a week, without spending money. Good luck.Edited by XMES RUS on Monday 27th July 16:47
Just come back from a week in Port Andtrax and a week in Port Alcudia.
Port Andtrax, very nice, very quaint, very very expensive.
Port Alcudia, lovely beach but a bit 'kiss me quick' for my liking. Lots of seaside, plastic bucket & spades type shops, restaurants with loud live music, British pubs, etc. Bit too down market for my taste and still very expensive (at least EUR 60 for a meal for 2 adults/2 kids (main course only plus soft drinks all round). Port Pollenca a bit better but could get quite tacky towards the northern end of town. Pollence was a lovely place with a classical Spanish square (was a festival on when we were there with all the families out at night and the place buzzing).
Conclusion was that we wouldn't rush back to Mallorca. Was OK but combination of poor Euro exchange rate and high prices generallu meant that we spent c.£1500-£2000 feeding a family of four for two weeks, with the odd show and trip to water parks on top. Not cheap considering this was on top of flights & accommodation.
Oh, and whatever you do, look at getting air con. Our villa in the first week had air con and was very pleasant. No air con in the second week plus temperatures of 38day/32night (combined with rampant mozzie problem so no open windows) meant very uncomfortable nights...
