Tyres: Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 discountinued

Hi folks

I picked up a puncture in my sidewall on the weekend, and was intending to just replace the tyre with another Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Unfortunately I'm being told that this tyre has been discontinued by Goodyear and has been replaced by an asymmetric tyre (whose tread pattern looks a bit crap if I'm honest)

What tyres are people using instead of the GS-D3?

I know Toyo's T1-R is an option, but I'm running this on the Corrado at the moment and I'm not overly impressed. It's ok for a budget tyre but I'd want something better for the Sagaris. I'm quite annoyed the GS-D3 is discontinued because it is a good tyre.

The asymetric from what I hear is a vast improvement over the GSD3 so don't discount it based on what the tread looks like.

Every review I've seen of the asymmetric has been really good, especially wet-weather performance. Unfortunately they don't supply it in a size suitable for any of my 3 cars!

Oh, I wouldn't discount it. And obviously performance is far more important than looks. It's just a shame that it doesn't look as good as the GS-D3, that's all.

You might still find a GS-D3 if you look around. I bought two part-worns at the start of this year - actually nearly new (6mm tread) as spares. I had to use one after having the same problem you describe.

Choice depends on what your other tyre is like on the same axle, I suppose. If lots of tread I'd be looking for one GS-D3, if not you may as well go for the new ones. Bet you are looking at the steep side of £350 for both, though.

Also, aren't the new asymmetrics meant to work as a four -i.e. each corner does a job? Now that will be expensive!

Well, that's the rub. I have good tread on the other side. However, I also have the situation where the car is sitting immobile elsewhere waiting for a tyre, it's undriveable even with tyreweld in it, so has to be attended to my a mobile tyre fitter. And he's unable to source GS-D3. So I'm somewhat stuffed unless I can source one and get him to agree to fit.

Since it's a front tyre that's gone, and there is still plenty of tread on the other 4, I think I'll just bung Toyo Proxes T1-R on as a "cheap and adequate" solution and then look at switching to the Eagle F1 Asymmetric later when the rears have worn more significantly.

I run the T1-R on the Corrado and it's ok enough, so it will at least do for now and get me back on the road.

Edit: I'm *really* surprised how similar on price they are to each other on blackcircles.com

• Toyo Proxes T1-R £161.81
• Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric £167.46

(both prices all-inclusive, fully-fitted)

However, I'll stick with Toyo due to the concern about possibly needing to run all 4 tyres on Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric.

I changed to the Asymetric earlier in the year also went wider on the rear,they are a HUGE improvement over the GSD3's, I sold my part worn GSD3's for good money so a cheap upgrade.

Oh well, too late now. The 2 Toyos are on order now.

I'll switch to the F1 Asymmetric at a later date.

Ive just put a set of Falken 452's on my T350 seem very good no problems in any weather.
Quiet a bit cheaper too try camskill.
Not sure if there in your size.
