S50 M Coupe help
Discussion
Heya.
I am at the end of my tether. My S50 surges when at constant throttle ( constant cruise on motorway & rough idel when cold) I have had two good specialists look at it, with no success, both said it was fine ( I've driven others, it isnt...)
Having spent hours on the web I cant find any hints other than maybe a coil has gone? Does anybody know a good specialist who can help diagnose?
London based preferably & familar with M Power.

Which 'specialists' has it been to?
If it was a coil then there'd be a 'final stage ignition' fault logged in the system that the specialist could read.
I'd recommend Darjac Racing (http://www.darjac-racing.co.uk/), near Colchester, but don't know if you're that side of London or not and they're closed for two weeks holiday at the moment.

Hi
Has the VANOS been checked, faulty VANOS seals can cause surging and rough idle, and stalling. I came accross this http://www.beisansystems.com/ while researching.

Just out of interest, how substantial are his facilities? If it was a coil then there'd be a 'final stage ignition' fault logged in the system that the specialist could read.

He currently rents workshop space elsewhere with ramps, etc. but he's about to build his own double-height workshop with lifts so that he can take more cars in and so that he can get other cars (on restoration projects or multi-day work) out of the way whilst working on simpler servicing jobs.
I've a similar ongoing problem with my own mcoupe S50, although the idle is fine it's just at constant medium throttle (i.e. on the motorway). So far i have replaced all coil packs, coil connectors, fuel filter, spark plugs etc. I have also checked the throttle pot for a possible break with a multimeter but that is also fine.
Like yourself I have had it on two bmw main dealer diagnostics along with a indys and it shows up fine i had thought it may be the Air flow meter but that seems perfect. My next train of thought is a possible software or ecu glitch, I have spoken to a re-map company about this and am waiting on word back ( they are checking with head office in germany if this may help before they will take it in for mapping)
What i am also hoping to do is re-create the problem with the diagnostic plugged in although this will mean running down the motor way with a diagnostic plugged in, just have to find someone willing to do it.
If you do find out what causes it before me, please let me know, like yourself im finding it annoying!
