did 500 miles in monaro vxr 2004 over the weekend up to the moto gp race at donnington ,having only had car for two weeks i am still getting to grips with it and not sure how it should feel being a totally different type of car , the car seemed to move about at high speeds on some motorways i suspect this may be what i call tyre tracking ,have two new tyres on back they are nexens , should it do this , also steering seems very sharp ie little movment to move car , and turns at higher speed seems to make the rear end squirm around , hard to explain just seems strange ,maybe this is just how car is to drive not sure . i had a bmw 330 m sport before so have been spoilt for handling and have to get used to this car , otherwise it is great , any advise would be great , thanks guys ......rob
i have a 04 cv8, and ive found the front end gets very light at high speed. yours is a vxr so should be a little lower and stable.
not to sure about the proplem with your back end, when under high speed accleration rwd cars are more planted as the back wheels are pushed into the ground.
as for the tyres burn them off, nexen's are s**t!! dont know why somebody would want to put cheap tyres on a high powered car it can make the difference between life and death!

thanks must say i did not put the tyres on , so you think these tyres are no good what do you suggest for tyres .thanks
i think people will have there own opinions on tyres, but ive got mate whos got them on a r33, while dry grip isnt too bad wet is horrendous, nearly as bad as the pirellis i had on my car. for an expensive tyre pirellis are dangerous in the wet.
i used to run faulken 452's on my skyline, they were great.
im running contisports atm, while good there wearing down quick!
toyo proxes are apparently the best but are made of super soft rubber, so i cant see them lasting long! and they cost a fortune!
tbh though i dont think the tyres would cause the problems youve described

Ah, wondered where you were over the weekend
Mine has shown some similar characteristics, does move about a bit and I think some of it must be down to our roads and fat tyres. I can get 'pulled' toward the kerb if the camber is bad quite easily.
Coming from a sports model BMW I think you are going to see some change !!

05 VXR here and I had the same issue (just wish I was able to make the MotoGP like you though!)
Anyway, a lot of people will point to the tyres. When I had the looseness you describe I had the OEM Pirelli's on the front and some Falken's on the back. Everyone said change the Falkens for something expensive. Unfortunately I don't have money to burn (out new tyres...) so put up with it - I just upped the tyre pressures of the Falkens to around 38 which had the effect of stiffening up the side walls. It made it a bit better, but it was still there.
I eventually had to replace my fronts, and I chose Continental Sport Contact 3's.
Handling was transformed. Significantly better in every situation, and the vagueness at high speed completely gone.
I should also add that I have the Monkfish Road Response Pack which gives you Poly bushes which stiffen everything up, and you also get the geometry fully set up as part of it.
Hope that helps.

simon sorry i missed you at weekend will be here this weekend call by. and yes i think a road response pack would be good will look into that , tyres well dont like to waste them but maybe will change them for better ones thanks
good as a road response pac is, it wont make your tyres good! You will not resolve the problem while you have a set of nexans on.
VXR LS2 here, Not tried anything else on the Ro apart from the Pirelli Pzero Rossos and all seems good at low and high speeds with regards motorway driving in lane 2 and 3 (i try and avoid lane 1 where wagons leave gullies). Though i do find tram lining can be a problem on crap roads (fighting with it sometimes) but i guess thats down to the 35mm wall. It hasn't bothered me as I've had the same issues with other cars with the same sized wall and width tyre...

This has been covered to death in the past....
1. Avoid Falkens - the ro's seem to heavy for them. (experience of side wall wobble as you describe)
2. Nothing wrong with the Nexens. Up the pressure by 5 psi and then see how they perform. It's generally noted that all tyre need afew more psi for optimum performance than the book says.
3. Get your wheel alignment checked.
HTH!
