Is it telling me to boil the chicken in milk after leaving it over night to marinate?

I have to cook if that's the case.

seems to be. the spices i can understand but would sitting in unflavoured milk impart any significant flavour? I wonder how the KFC version gets its crust so 'gluey'

I was fascinated until reading the Guardian reader's comments at the bottom of the article started to put me off even attempting to replicate their recipies, just in case...

I think they mean that you should poach it in milk first, then flour and fry it. Since I don't own a chip pan or deep fryer, I reckon a squirt of olive oil and a hot oven will have to do.

In the States the KFC's have an "extra crispy" option. Not slimy like the standard one and really tasty/crunchy. Has anyone seen it for sale over here?

No but it's the same in Thailand. I would describe it as almost "nutty".

The UK "version" pails into insignificance once you have been spoilt by this ("crispy" as described) coating.

Why on earth would you eat KFC in Thailand, with all that lovely homegrown food available?
Actually, I'm glad they don't do it here, I'd be down there 2 or 3 times a week and I'm not doing junk food at the moment! frown

When you've spent 7 days on a morphine drip your tastebuds and appetite play funny tricks on you. The last thing you would want is a Thai dish after eating sticky rice or glass noodles with fish sauce three times a day whether you like it or not.

KFC is the perfect "pick me up" after a strictly enforced regime of hospital food.

KFC is one of those foods that to me the thought of it is always better than the reality - a greasy slimy mess.

Agree about Thai KFC, much nicer. Additionally they do a Thai salad version too, chopped up KFC fillet mixed with chilli, shallots, lemon juice etc.

Have to say that the McDonalds in Thailand is also fantastic, primarily because it's one of the only places where the burgers are consistently so hot that you can't hold them initially, rather than the ones in the UK that are left sitting there for 5 minutes.

They also now sell a grilled version alongside the fried version.
