A/C ?

Should be getting the car on the road soon. one detail I didn't consider would be the heat generated in the cabin. My engine is an Audi S4 which i'd imagine runs cooler than a Chevy, but all the same i'm sure it's going to get hot in there!!
I did get Steve to wire in a 12v cigg lighter so as to power some accessories.

Does anyone know any portable air con. units that can run off 12v lead or any other cooling device that works as well >??>

I'm not aware of any cooling system that works on the fly like you're suggesting, but I will suggest, you won't want to drive the car much if you don't get some fresh air at the very least. My cabin is very tight and allows for almost no air movement in or out causing it to get pretty hot and stale in there quickly. Did you install the ac system under the dash and run the hoses along the side pod?

Thanks for the offer, but it's too late in the day for that now. I'm sure there must be a reasonible alternative.

lets see now, I am assuming that the Audi engine has 2 turbos on it. these take heat from the exhaust and convert it back into energy. while doing this, these 20 lb chunks of cast iron turn glowing red and the headers glow so bright you could swear that you can see through them. All of this is going on in the engine compartment vs the crude old chevy that takes all this heat and dumps it out the back with the briefest of slow downs in the muffler. Remind me again about why the S4 engine is going to let the car run cooler. I do not mean to be AN ASS about this but this argument and the one about how light the Audi engine is doesn't make it. When you quote how light an Audi engine is don't forget that you need to add the weight of turbos, intercoolers, plumbing and wastegates to the weight of the motor to talk on even terms. O.K I am done ranting. Lee

What's the weight difference between the Audi RS4/S4 engine in comparison to the LS7 engine? How much hp/torque difference between engines?

Can't say I've seen an alternative either I'm afraid. I think it will certainly be worthwhile fitting A/C, you have the engine generating heat right behind you without the best of airflow over it, and up front the radiator which will be warming your legs up niceley. No windows to speak of either. Definitely route air into the cabin from the front with a blower and consider how to retro fit the air con. Probably not easy but not impossible either. Something else that might help if you don't go down the A/C route is a couple of mighty fans under the rear clip to evacuate air quickly.

I think the Toyots Prius has an electric AC system, which runs of a 120V electric motor. The energy for this comes from the high Voltage batteries and inverter system. You will probably need a BIG alternator to make it work in the Ultima.

glad I do not have an AC and have not connected the heater hoses at all (have installed the hoses, so in any case..........)

You still have time then...........I didn't think I needed it but you'll find that whilst it doesn't cool the cockpit down (unless you have the roof up) it will give you some degee of coolness.

I have disconnected my hoses as well but BELIEVE ME it still gets hot in there!

I've looked at your build site and have a comment to make on your 'fresh air intake' I believe that all you will get into that intake is brake dust and hot air from the radiator. You would be better to connect that bulkhead intake to a hose with either a blower motor (as I have!) or direct it towards the front brake duct and feed the heater motor with fresh air.

Odd Why are you insane..... when it rains you will need that Heater to demist the screen (SVA Req), and when sunny you will need that AC in Any ultima....Even a Can-Am

we will see........no intention to ever drive the car in rain, I think that is really dangerous.
