Distributor mechanical advance weight springs

I'm just about to swap my tired distributor for a replacement new part. I notice that the advance springs are much thicker in the new distributor compared to my old didtributor. As a general rule my understanding is that "stock" advance springs can ofte be replaced with weaker ones to allow full advance earlier. So I'm thinking I should change the old springs on to the new dizzy.

Can anyone tell me if TVR changed these springs from standard? I guess I should fit it as standard and measure the advance curve with a strobe - but any comments or knowledge would be appreciated.

cheers, I might go down this road and experiment - slow process though compared with an electronic equivalent that can be done real time.
