I have a bought an E36 saloon for a bit of fun on the track. I want to cage it but not go to the expense of a full weld in. Has anyone got any experience of a half cage? cost, fitting etc?

Thanks
Gary

This is what i have in my E36 saloon. The Wiechers half cage. It was pretty reasonably priced and very well made. It comes with all fitting kit ( Nuts, Bolts and plates ) The only drama I had was that i had to remove the sunroof mechanism which wasnt a great shame as it removed alot of weight from the car. But then had to weld the sunroof panel in. I think you can specify a sunroof friendly version if you want.

I'll try get a pic later, gotta dig the car out from its garage today to fit new coilovers today anyway.

Hope this helps.

Have you any piccies of the sunroof mod? I'm just going to do this to my E36 Saloon so pictures of the final result would be handy. I was thinking of brackets to hold the panel in place but if welding is possible then that'll be easier.

I have a full custom cage in mine by "Caged". To be honest it's not something to skimp on but obviously people have budgets.

We just riveted an ali panel over the hole, sealed with silicon. It's the lightest option although it obviously depends how pretty you need the car to be wink This is an early pic, now the car has been repainted it looks pretty good and functional.

Here's a pic of my cage.

The guy who did the sunroof for me actually buckled the roof through the heat created. He put a rod around the gap between the roof and panel then filled it with weld. It was a shoddy job. But all is well now had the roof beaten, smoothed and resprayed.
If i could do it again I would make small plates up and weld them to the inner skin of the roof then to the panel itself with MIG and not gas like this guy did with mine. But im no master welder.

I like Bennys idea, i should have gone with that one myself.
