Hi All,

Seeing as I use my Defender frequently I have decided I need/want to upgrade the stereo system. The head unit and CD changer and front speakers are easy enough to deal with, however what have you done with regards to rear speaker placement?

Don't get me wrong - I'm not about to do a MASSIVE ICE install, I just need something that sounds half decent!

Cheers,

DTC

I fitted a pair in the rear doors. They are just a cheapie pair from Halfrauds as they are likely to get kicked by kids and dunked in mud but dies the job.

If you take the door card off, carefully, wind the window down, you'll see how much space you have. Ran the wires under the soundproofing, spiral wrapping them from speaker to under the aucoustic matting.

I put a couple in an MDF section above the rear door, nice and neat and out of the way.

That's one option I was considering. Any chance o a piccie please? Also, what size speakers did you use? I was thinking 6 x 9 may be too heavy?

Cheers,

DTC.

Sure, theyre what... 5 or 6". I meant to paint it white to blend in with the roof but never got round to it. Good position for them too as it gives good accoustics.

Hehe no worries! It's quite nice since you can run the speaker cable along the inside guttering. All tidy then.

That's what I thought too.

I've recently moved to Mid/West Wales - where abouts are you? I'm looking for some 4wd areas to have fun in (apart from home) PM me if you want.

Thanks once again.

Hi Bish,

Thanks for your pics, too. Nice 90 smile

I think with your front speaker & amp set-up combined with the unit above the rear door I'll be all sorted.

Love those air horns too! What sort are they? I bet they scare the heck out of anyone that gets in the way.

Cheers,

DTC
