IT Project Management Market - Future?
Discussion
Hi resident PH PMs,
What's your opinion on the IT PM market in General?
Looking around as I regularly do (just to see what's out there, no plans to move at the mo), there doesn't seem to be much at the low/mid-market at the moment, but plenty of Senior jobs around - am I just looking in the wrong places?
Also, would MSP be worth doing to move to Programme Management, and has anyone been involved much with or heard anything about the APM Chartered Status application? That seems to have died down a bit from the hype...
Just trying to get a feel for where I might move next (25y/o, 4 years PM experience with Prince2) and so any comments much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

IT in general is a support service.
Companies will hold off projects while money is tight and make-do with what they currently have if possible. So when the chips are down, the jobs will be far and few between.
But as I see it, IT systems aren't going away, so neither are the jobs. Sit tight, the good times will return and companies will look to recruit again and invest in projects that have been shelved by the recession.

Is there any reason why your just looking at sticking within IT in a project managers role? I've been a Pm for a couple more years than yourself and started in IT but have moved out and into other areas (retail at the mo). a good PM with experience and the qualifications such as yourself should be able to do the role in any market really so no need to pigeon hoel yourself to one in particular.
