Yes - it was my car, and I'm still trying to recover it. The insurance company agreed to cat c, and Co-part insisted it was changed at the last minute. It would be tragic if it were broken, as the chassis etc is perfectly good. I know it looks drastic, but it really just needs cleaning up and re-shelling (floor pan is fine)plus the usual wires and plumbing etc.... I still have most of the spares needed to do it.

what a terrible shame.

I am a bit confused though. How come the scrappy gets to decide whether its cat C or what ever else?

Was that a a mark 2?

ETA: before anyone else gets in there

"looks like it'll polish out"

Seriously, I hope you weren't hurt

yes it was a mk2 - climax spec (engine long sine replaced by a B series), and nobody was hurt. To see it in full glory, look at the grantura register - mk2 7/c/231 (3340CD).

No - the car was slightly damaged having spun off the road 200 yards after setting off (25-30 mph. It was backed into a hedge and stuck in the mud - once the fire spread to the hedge, there was no stopping it. All we could do was watch...
All a bit crap really.

Its got a bid of £70 on it, does that mean you couldn't get it back?

Was this car purchased off Spadge Hopkins of Cottage Classics by any chance? I remember seeing a similar car that was his for sale on his site before it was closed.

The car is now a Category B? That means it can't be returned to the road on the original chassis number and registration. If you did buy it back (minus the chassis normally for Cat B!) you'd likely need to either get an identity from somewhere (iffy legality) or IVA the car to register it.

It seems a shame but it's probably the end of the road for that vehicle as it stands.

sadly not - it sems to be a lost cause, much to my regret - the car could be anywhere now. A very sorry end to a great car.

I'm actually thinking to importing the car to Holland, as far as I can work out from the terms, the car doesn't have to be dismantled if the car is for export. Copart is asking to fill out a lot of paperwork, I'm trying to find out if I can speed up this process. Not sure yet it might be fully worth it though?? Most parts of the chassis seem to be all right. But where to get a bodyshell, I read some time ago that they are still available..

You can purchase a new bodyshell from Nigel Rueben at something like £3,250. The chassis is in perfectly good condition, and everything forward of the bulkhead is excellent (apart from the bonnet which needs some TLC). Although the interior looks appalling (it is), the best way forward is to remove the bodyshell from the bottom of the sills, clean up the floor pans, and glass the new shell in place. The door posts are excellent, as are the hinges (the door mechanisms just need cleaning up and re-fitting), and the rear suspension uprights, drive shafts etc simply need cleaning and re-bushing. This is a very saveable car, with a lot of the very hard restoration work already done and still intact. I would be very happy to know that someone had rescued it (I also have loads of spares for it if you are interested!).

Sorry to see your car in this condition!!!

What was the black ball-shaped thing behind your radiator? And what happend to the right rear bumper? What spares do you have? And do you remember what type of shocks you used?

Hi - the black ball thingy behind the radiator is the horn (taken out a ZB Magnette), and the rear bumper was destroyed by the fire. I will post a list of spares on Wednesday if you like. Cheers for now.

Hell who knows, they are that rare that someone else may need rather than want them, better not to have the info in the public domain....I wonder..
