The scenario - no other drivers, just these two stars in their own right. A typical Grand Prix race distance, equal pitstop times.

In their respective Ferrari and Mclaren, which seem to be getting pretty similar performance, lets say perfectly equal. wink.

F1 is just about to wake up.smile

It's topical. Evidently, as you think 'everyone' is all Lewis v. Schu.

Don't get itchy mate. Either don't vote/contribute or start a poll that you'd like to see the results of.

No.

No pit stops. Take external variables out of the equation.

And are we talking Ze Chin in his 2005 Ferrari against Lewis in his 2008 McLaren? Both in 2005 Ferraris? Both in 2008 McLarens? How about a total leveller - both in 1957 Vanwalls!

Because Lewis is probably the most exciting drive to have appeared on the F1 scene for a long time and Spoonmaker is arguably the best (on results)

mate, not getting itchy, merely asked a question regarding the basis of this 'topical' issue.

So who would you like to see out infront? thumbup

People are interested to see if the 7 times world champion is better than the by 1 point champion

Hamilton would probably have it in a 2008/9 car , Schu , would probably show Hamilton how its done in a 2004/5 car. However given equal development / track time in a car that was new to them both , the 2010 regs for example I really think Hamilton would have the edge. Just with the benefit of youth on his side , and given the skill and composure he's already shown I doubt Schuie could match it. That said Hamilton has 6 more world championships to attain before he can be compared like for like in any sports almanac

I'd like to see Lewis infront. Purely from a patriotic point of view.

However, I have the utmost respect for Schuey and I reckon he'd edge it if this race took place tomorrow taking experience, skill and knowledge into consideration.

The interesting thing is that Schuey must now surely have a family (retired once, chilled-upon-a-time) head on him whereas Lewis' bks are probably the size of Schueys when he was fresh on the scene.

Close race IMO. Very close.

F1 is about to wake up? Are you mad?

The only thing you can say is that F1 is about to have the biggest debate ever about the fact that the cars make the sport now, not the drivers.

This will prove that more than ever. I cant wait to see all the Schuey fans when Button or Hamilton or Webber beat him.

I dont want to see Schumacher beaten OR win especially. But this will prove that F1 is more an engineering exercise than a talent show, because neither set of fans will admit their driver is off the mark.

On the flipside, I cant wait to be wrong. If Schuey canes everyone, there will be a number of drivers with very few places to hide. Which can only be good.

Thats a bit harsh considering he almost won it in his first season, you could say the same about magnum really can't you (except the first season bit)

I really hope he wins for that, i'd love to see what excuses Barry would have if he got beat by Schumi in a worse car.

I have to say I agree. My favorite scenario for him coming back would it be absolutely pissing down with rain, Schuey pulling out one of his all time classic drives, him doing them all by a huge margin and then going back into retirement. It'd be hilarious.

I think it would be folly to think that Schuey has lost the killer instinct. You dont become 7 time F1 champion by being shakey in the cajones dept. Champions are s. Its a fact. "Nice guys finish last" is as true in sport as anywhere. Name me a nice guy multiple champion from the last 15 yrs - I dare you.

Schuey isnt the concern, the Fezza is.

In equal cars I don't think there is a lot in it but Shu is a more complete driver. I was never his biggest fan but he certainly had skills! Hamilton is awesome when on one of his charges but if he does not smell a decent chance of points he seems to just go through the motions. Shu was, and presumably will be, more of a fighter in some ways. Hamilton will presumably have fitness on his side and far more familiarity with the new cars and regs but Shu has experiance on his side and nothing to prove which I think could give him an advantage, all other things being equal.

JV almost won it in his first season, then won by a larger margin than hamilton in his second. look at the comments made about villenueve's ability since then.

To me hamilton still has to prove that he can match the best by producing a performance beyond the capability of the car he's driving, something that the true greats like Fangio, Moss, Clark, Gilles Villeneuve, Senna & Schumacher have all arguably done. Until he has done this in my opinion he'll just be a whole heap of hype and tax avoidance wrapped up in cynically controlled corporate package conceived to generate as much cash as possible.

But fans have become so used to fezza always providing schu with a winning car, they don't have that yet this year but its close, he may do them some favors by providing useful feedback to put them in the right direction, not saying that magnum and massa can't, but schu does know what he's doing. Besides Lewis is the only world champion out of the current crop that spoonmaker hasn't raced against, thats why people are making a deal out of it.
