At some point I would like to go for a Wortec cat back but I've been reading that the local police have been cracking down on loud exhausts (mostly the boy racer brigade) but the official line seems to be that if the exhaust you have fitted is louder than the standard then it is illegal.
Anyone have any firm information on the legality of aftermarket systems?

There have been discussions about this before think the legal limit it 105db but may be wrong,

Could also go for the switable exhaust when the pigs are in the area smile

The general consensus is there is no actual legal limit. However, you could get nicked for other offences regarding driving in a noisy manner or being a nuisance. This is much easier for the Police than having to prove the system is any louder than a standard car.

I thought there was no legal noise limit as such but if its too loud then you may get problems from the police

Strictly speaking, any deviation from the manufacturers standard, or designed to increase noise is actually illegal.

But it would take a total wker of a cop to actually pursue the matter. Sadly, with the governments anti-car policies, more and more of these wker cops are appearing, armed with even more NEW stupid laws to extort money from motorists and turn them into criminals.

And there are far more traffic cops who love cars just like the rest of you, we dont agree with Gordon and his chums, i have never stopped a modified car just because it makes a noise.
Just drive with care in the 30's and dont rev your engine like a nob in front of the cops, most couldnt care less about your exhaust, too busy being agony aunts at domestics.
We are not all bad honest!

I dont mind a bit of cop bashing, but every now and then i have to reply! You have to be quite daft to get a ticket from me and most of the people i work with, I know there are some biffs about but you have them in your jobs too.
Just never associate me with Gordon or i will look up your car number plate and then hide in the hedge down your road!;)

It's not the police you should blame, it's the ones you voted for to run the contry they make up the rules, the police have to enforce them.

Primarily I do blame the law makers.

But we all know there are too many cops out there, who just see easy pickings. Whether thats pushed onto them from their superiors to do so, or whether they get a kick from it by themselves, I dont know.

But it seems they still need to teach many officers some common sense, and discretion.

Some are just too eager to apply the law....letter for letter, when the "crime" in the first place, is complete and utter bks.

The biggest criminals in this country, are politicians and the law makers themselves !!!

The manufactures clearly take noise emissions very seriously and on the face of it Euro/UK regulations are quite tuff. The spec is actually published on the registration document!

These are for my 05 CV8. Perhaps other contributors could post the specs for the other Monaro variants.

I have compared mine to a 6.0 side by side and the CV8 was the louder. The 6.0 seemed very muted indeed, with the stock twin round pipes per side outlets. Vauxhall offered a sport exhaust with oval tail pipes which could be selected if ordered through their website. The menu pull down said in brackets illegal for road use.

The UK 05 CV8 has the taller gear ratios as a supposedly quick fix for excessive noise emissions. Looks like it has extra silencers to over its Australian brethren. I obtained this system off eBay 2nd hand.

It is identical to the original apart form the boxes, so I suspect it is of original GM manufacture. Presumably these boxes rob a bit of power to. It is louder, but sensibly in my view with an appropriate woofle at low revs and buzz/bark at mid to high revs. The teenager's moped over the road is still louder! Police can't be that bothered to pull people if they let him go.

What exhaust are you running at the moment ? Mine is a stock 05 cv8. I would like to change it but nothing seems to be in the low woofle rumble catagory! if you catch my drift

I too was after the "low rumble" together with the Wortec roar. the "low rumble" doesn't really exist, only on tick over, and you cannot drive everywhere on tickover - I've tried!
Wortec catback would be your best bet if you're after more "grunt" but not much more volume at low revs.
Add headers and your neighbours will start punching you........

I did stick with the one on the left. It came with back boxes identical to the originals which I used as well as the tail pipes were in better nick.

My advice would be to just cut out the boxes.

With the windows down it's great, windows up on the motorway you wouldn't know it was different, another reason why I think it is an Australian factory fit.
