heater valve motor

Hi, hope someone can answer a few questions. Having just changed out the heater valve I noticed that the heater motor only turns the valve through 45 degrees when the valve travel is about 90 degrees from closed to fully open. I have checked the motor spindle connection to valve and this is not slipping, definately only getting 45 degree travel. I also noticed that the motor does not have limit switches although the recirc flap and air flow direction motors both have limit switches.
Just wondering if 45 degree of travel is typical or should the motor turn the valve a full 90 degrees?
Should this motor have limit switches?
Could the heater ECU be playing up and not suppling the right output to turn the motor through its full travel?
