Hi All

I'm planning to send my Breitling Superocean to the service centre in Tunbridge Wells but a question or two before I do....

I'm planning to use RM Special Delivery (up to £2500 compensation) but in the unlikely event of it disappearing I can see problems claiming successfully. Reason being, I bought the SO on eBay about 6 or 7 years ago and I don't have any sort of documentation with it (I know it's genuine though as it was serviced by Breitling right after I bought it).

Does anyone know what evidence of ownership I would need to have if it went missing? Come to think of it, I'd also need something for insurance purposes?

Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks.

why dont you send it via an authorised dealer if you are concened? You can probably get the same dealer to give you a replacement valuation for insuranec purposes, take photos of it too and keep it as a record.

The dealer will relieve me of an additional £100 for the privilege I'm afraid

In that case get yourself along for a valuation, then you should be OK. Thats a hell of a handlign charge though!

I recently sent my Tag Heuer for a service via Royal Mail Special Delivery and it was lost (substitute stolen!) somewhere between the post office and the sorting office.

It has taken 2.5 months to get my compensation, I had the original receipt and they have paid the full purchase cost without argument. I was worried that they would try to lower the payout based on depreciation.

I would make sure you get a decent valuation certificate and make sure you are comfortable with the terms and conditions. See http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content2?catId=...

giw12,

Let me start by saying two things: like you I live in Surrey, and my Omega needed a full service recently.

Like you, I was concerned about posting my watch and never seeing it again. So, after some research I decided to use this firm who are Omega's approved UK service company:

www.swisstimeservices.co.uk

They are near Southend.

I decided to take the watch there myself; a 150 or so mile round trip. They were very good. I met an engineer who inspected the watch, told me what was required, and gave me a written quote on the spot that I accepted. I asked how long it would take and was told 2 weeks! This is far better than the three months I was told by a high street retailer. In the event it took only one week. The cost was £180 so I avoided the high streeet mark up. All in all a satisfactory deal.

While I was at their facility I asked about other watches and they confirmed they do repair many other makes for a significantly less cost (they have to charge Omega's set prices for these watches). So, I'd recommend that you give them a call, mention you have a Brietling needing attention, and if they can do the job I suggest you deliver it yourself for a speedy stress free service.

Hope this helps.

R.
