Puma engine tuning
Discussion
Has anyone had theirs tuned? If so by who and with what results?
Seriously toying with a JE stage 2 (180bhp and 332 torques.... http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/defender/diesel-eng...) which seems to be the highest amount of power available on the market.
I think it needs doing cos the power low down in the rev range and before the turbo kicks in is non-existent. One huge lag.

I've got the BAS and the tuning box, amazing change in drivability, pulls 6th easily at 40 still with punch to accelerate. Even does more MPG, get high 20's now all the time and as said in 2 minutes it's standard again... always useful with a Land Rover product under warranty!
It's not as powerful as other tuners though. I like the concept but wish it had more power. By the way, can some kind soul explain what happens when you go to the dealer? Do they wipe the chip or something?Land Rover do lots of 'updates' to the ECU at service times (an old BMW trick) that resets all maps etc, the advantage of the BAS is you can reflash it yourself before and after if you like.
I looked at the others and drove a couple (JE and Twistsed, although the twisted had intercooler and exhaust changes which I didn't want) and drivability was better and smoother on the BAS, less of a kick but much more drivable and less of the irritating throttle lag comes as standard with the puma.

don't judge a book by it's cover.
Their wheels etc are dreadful but the tuning products are very good.
I quite like the Eltex wheels they supply. Are they crap quality then or just not to your taste?Their wheels etc are dreadful but the tuning products are very good.
I called JE this morning and I think I am going to go with them. Just haven't decided to go for a stage 1 or 2 though. The stage 2 makes not a lot of difference I think but it would be nice to have the most powerful Puma on the road. They're gonna see if they can fit some Disco II seats into my car too (might not do this if it's horrendously expensive though). Very friendly, helpful chap on the phone there when I called.

Mine went to Allisport today, limiter removed and remap. I didn't go for the intercooler.
It picks it's heels up better and is significantly smoother. It feels like you can push on a bit and overtake now.
Interesting! Is it an abrupt difference to the previous performance? What bhp and torques does yours put out now?It picks it's heels up better and is significantly smoother. It feels like you can push on a bit and overtake now.
Can't wait to get mine done. It really needs more oomph.
