I'm thinking about building a Chevy 350 and am currently working-out some figures in terms of likely build cost. I haven't phoned-round yet, but can someone give me some realistic figures for the following block machining work, so I have some frame of reference to work from...

Check block deck for flatness
Magnaflux / pressure-test block
Bore cylinders +30 and hone
Hot tank block
Fit new cam bearings
Fit con-rods to new pistons (press-fit pins)
Balancing

Thanks,
Ian.

It's quicker to skim a block than try and check it for flatness. I'd also suggest getting both banks decked to the same height from crank centreline because V engines can have errors there. Depends how pedantic you want to be on equalising CR on both sides. I wouldn't bother pressure testing or balancing anything better than factory unless it's a very high rpm engine.

Skim both banks - £80 (if the person has a jig to set the block up properly up relative to crank centreline.)

Bore/hone £200
Fit cam bearings £50 plus parts
Fit pistons £50

Thanks, that gives me something to work from.
