Iveco Cursor CNG rev variation
Discussion
Hi,
I guess that this is an unusual engine to ask questions about on here but I'll try anyway.
The engine is a 9? litre Iveco Cursor running on CNG, it has MF3 (I think bosch) "metafuel" management for gas injection and ignition with a VDO E-Gas system managing throttle pedal and aspiration, both ECUs communicate. New engines of this type have dispensed with the VDO E-Gas and use "something else" - I am not sure what this is but can find out.
On this engine when a fixed engine speed is requested the actual engine speed varies around the target speed by about 100 rpm at a regular frequency almost like the control loop is too slow. This is the case whether the engine is loaded or not. Bizzarely the new engine (i.e. latest management system) does this too.
Question is why would a CNG engine do this while the diesel engines we use are able to hold a much steadier fixed engine speed for the same application?
