So I have two BMWs (not indicating twice as much) and keep the handbooks together..now I need to work out which handbook folder belongs to which car.

I have a smaller, montana-leatherish folder and a larger nappa-leatherish folder with slots for business cards. One belongs to my E46 328 and the other to my Z4M. Which is which? hehe

I have an E46, my handbook folder fits your second description.

Z4M is the only leather folder I have -- it has an embossed 'M' on it. Both the other BMWs I've got/had (E46 320d M-Sport Coupe, E60 520d M-Sport) have a crappy cloth-covered folder.

My E46 also has a folder which sounds like the second one you mention.
