Has anyone used anything that works against what is by far the worst pest that I have to deal with in my garden?

I don't really want to harm them, though I would rather harm them than have their disgusting faeces harm my two young kids who play in the garden, but if I can make it extremely uncomfortable for them coming in my garden such that they lose interest in doing so again, through noise, water, temporary pain or itchiness or anything else, perfect.

Quite why cat owners think it is acceptable to let their animals wander wild and free is totally foreign to me, if you did that with a dog it would be classed as 'stray' and pounded.

Please don't see this as an open invite for cat owners to justify tiddles behaviour, I'm not interested, I just want to know if anyone has used a product that has made a real difference to them in getting rid of the little critters out of their garden (and no, advice of getting my own cat to chase them away won't be tolerated, can't stand them).

I thought cats only drop presents in long grass?

Up the frequency for mowing your lawn?

Moved in to new house.

Turns out Neighbours have 4 cats which had taken over our garden, constantly draping their flea ridden boidies over our garden table / bench, stting everywhere etc.

Got a Staffie...problem solved.

I'm told that lemon / orange peel works very well.

Failing that, every time you see one, use a super soaker against it.
Combine the two - lemon juice (or ammonia) solution in a super soaker. It'll leave a lemon residue in your garden which the cat will smell and associate with getting shot with the super soaker.

nope - on top of soil, half buried in soil, buried in soil, on top of gravel, basically everywhere, the filthy little fleabags. Don't want a dog either and unfortunately they do their dirt normally when we don't see them.

I've seen the sonic ones, but they seem very cheap and nasty and there is no way of knowing that they are on. I'd like to buy the most substantial, uncomfortable (for cats), effective one available.

Who has one that works, what model and where did they get it from? I guess I need about 100 foot range

my cats completely bury their turds. These cats must not like you.

Are you positive it's only cats and not foxes as well? Foxes are foul creatures, they've shat in my driveway before.

Got one of these things from B&Q - sends out high pitch sonic sounds that deter cats. It used quite a few batteries at first, but settled down once the cats understood what was going on - clever? My arse....

Only thing with the one I got was that some smaller children started to become affected by it too - so had to remember to turn it off or had them saying that they weren't feeling well and had a headache!!!

I eventually got a dog though - works a treat. Though the neighbour seems to think that my dog is some sort of evil monster when she barks at her cat IN my garden. Who would have thought it....

I grabbed some of the bottles of green jelly stuff that Aldi was selling recently that was supposed to keep them away, I've had fewer deposits that usual where I put still the odd one. frown Little fkers.

I'd recommend a blast with the hose or, time permitting, a full on assault with a power washer. These little critters used to be the blight of my parents back garden until my Mum set the Karcher up by the back door!

2 bloody bid Golden Retrievers solved my problem, although only 1 of them is left. I haven't seen a cat in our garden for years!

I think that says a lot about most cat owners to be honest. Tell your kid to go and sit on their car bonnet, having scratched the wings on the way up, then take a dump on their front lawn, and they might start to understand the issues here...
