Can BMW do a Brawn?

When Honda walked we all thought it was the end of the line for the guys at the Honda works team, and although several 100 did lose their jobs, those who remained have now shown what a limited budget and a focussed approach can do under the leadership of one of F1's greats.

I now wonder if we can see BMW doing the same?

I guess half the trouble is that BMW is not based in the UK. Let's be honest, apart from a small village in Italy, F1 is firmly based in the UK, we have the best engineers, designers and infrastruture to support F1.

I wonder if Prodrive have been keeping the wheels of their F1 plans oiled over the past few months, there is alot of intellectual property within the BMW team, so it would be a real shame to see it all go to waste...

I would say no, because in Honda's last year they spent more or less the entire season developing the car Brawn are racing now, at the expense of that season's car and with all the resources of Honda behind it.

Now the major teams have begun to catch up, there are signs Brawn don't have the resources to keep ahead.

Whatever is left of BMW won't even have the benefit of a fantastic 2010 car because BMW haven't had the same focus solely on the next season like Honda decided to do in 2008.

No, because they seem to have totally given up on it.

With the Honda car, they started developing/designing it in April 2008. I think that the team will not even come up for sale. possibly just a state of the art windtunnel and supercomputer for the road car people to use, or a Le Mans program.

I dont think Brawn (the team) can be classed as great, the car they started with is Honda through and through. Now that the opposistion has caught up/on regarding diffusers et al, Brawn have NOT developed at rate near the Macs, Red Bulls or even the Ferraris.

We will see for the rest of the season, but I predict they will slip to the bottom of the front runners, or the top of mid-fields.

I doubt it, as they aren't spending millins on next year's car and the rules aren't changing drastically like they did this year.
I would like to see Peter Sauber take his old team back though, just the matter of finding an engine.

With the freeze on engine development, it's not impossible that a 3rd party could supply & maintain the existing stock of BMW engines
