Schumacher testing??

BBC website reporting that they understand that MS will be allowed to test the Ferrari before his comeback.

Is this not completely outside the rules and outside the spirit of the rules??

Probably an 07 with all the add on bits from an 09.

I believe he has 1 days use of a current car to get used to it as well approved by the FIA.

IMO its seems only fair that he can do some testing in the 09 car, infact you could argue it dangerous for him not to.

Its in the interests of the FIA to have Schumacher back and for him to be competitive.
Plus he's in a Ferrari.

Don't go thinking that any other team or driver would be allowed to do this though.

There is no difference between this and one of the current drivers driving last years car up the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill or driving one of last years cars on a city demonstration, factory day or any other.

As long as it's not the current car it doesn't matter.

Regardless of his obvious skill, it would be stupid to let him walk back into F1 without some seat time in a similar car. Dangerous for everyone on the grid. Goodluck to him i say.

Was about to say it was a good idea but Chris is right. How come this is allowed but not in the case of Alguersuari?

What's the source for that, sure they don't mean the 'straight line' testing?

Did they ask though? He ws only confirmed on the monday so not much time to get him testing when the cars were already on route to Hungary. As they admitted, the race itself was effectively his first test.

Alguersuari can drive a 2007/2008 car if Torro Rosso wanted him to but since those cars are nothing like the 2009 car in terms of mechanical grip and aero grip why bother and confuse the lad when he comes to driving the 2009 which is different.

Schumacher is only doing to re-aquaint himself with F1 cars and the G-forces as he hasn't driven anything quick since 2008 (unlike Alguersuari who has done other large single seater racing) and to see if his neck which he hurt in a motorbike race crash earlier in the year is ok.
