I've sourced a box from the factory, which I will collect in the New Year.
By all accounts its US only variant from a 993, 6 speed without LSD and has a casting date of 1994. I have the gear ratios but don't know if it is a long or short box.

I'm working today on pipe and cable runs in the engine bay and am having problems with the A/C compressor pipes fouling the engine mounts. If the engine has to move an inch forward for the long box then I no longer have a problem.

G50/20 Anyone know if it’s long or short?

Any box newer than 1990 is a long box. As far as I am aware it doesn't actually make any difference whether you have a long or short box to the engine mounting position. It's just the rear gearbox mount that changes. There is one exception to this. The G50/52 box from the 964 Turbo(?) has a much bigger ring gear and needs a set of spacer plates to move the engine forwards 25mm.

I think thats right, the G50/52 is the only one that repuires relocation of the engine 1 inch forward to compensate for the increased ring gear size.

OK thanks.
I'll have to find another answer to the A/C mounting.

What about the box is it a good choice?

What's the top gear ratio ?
If it works out less than 29 mph/1000 then you will be changing gear to often to take advantage of that lovely V8. Especially as it's a 6 Speed.

It works out at 28.8.
A G50/52 is 29.61
A G50/00 is 24.33

My Porsche parts list shows that the G50/20 was fitted for countries other than the US. CH, CAN and GB to name but a few are specifically listed.

I run this gearbox, it's fine and I have had no problems. Top speed is not disappointing !!
Perfect for a 377 engine .
