GERMANY S.O.S. VENOM500 PROBLEM
Discussion
Hi Folks, (SOME BAD NEWS)
Thought I would get the car checked over before Germany Tour, but have been told (seen 4 myself)its rear drivers side (standard from factory)brake caliper has seized up and so explains why my rear brakes kept binding/squeeking.
Sadly unless I can find one asap I'm gonna have to pull out of the German Trip as whilst the car is driveable my fear is the caliper jamming on at some point ,which could be rather dodgy.
I was just wondering if anyone would have a rear drivers side "standard factory fit" caliper for a Gen2 1997 build I could buy asap?
Any help to point me in the right direction would be most kind! Was looking forward to Germany

a quick call to Baz or Nad or email to Chuck will sort it out, bet Baz or Nad also has a few of them lying around
you will be going to Germany !
Chuck can probably get his hands on a re-build kit for your caliper, think their Brembo so you should be able to get a kit easily enough in the UK as well, arent they same fit as an Elise/VX220

I think they are the same, the guy at the garage thought he could get me a recon elise caliper (not sure how much that would be!) but I would rather one from a Viper to be sure ,plus I would guess it would be cheaper for me to obtain one from one of my Viper pals!
...........I'll wait to see what Baz says re-part numbers......Baz
you out there!
Many thanks to you all for the quick replys.....

Hi Tom, sorry I missed your call, just tried phoning you but no anwser.
I remember they are £393 from Chrysler UK...each!!!
I have some good (used) already off a car, I can post one to you. I also have the special tool for winding the piston back in on the handbrake worm drive (although you can use needle nose pliers) I can either look at sorting your seized one (I have caliper rebuild kits with all new seals etc, or given I'm pushed for time can send you one). Bleed it through, work the brakes and handbrake then bleed again, bubbles of air can get caught in the worm drive assembly and require a second bleed through (I've often found).
They are different, OE pre ABS are 36mm piston size, ABS model ones are 43mm piston size, they are a different bolt up in any case.
When changing the caliper you must use new copper washers, I have some of those to help you out in a hurry if you need them.

Many many thanks for all the offers of info/help. I have given the garage chap some info printed off the web re-rebuild of the calipers so I'll wait and see how he gets on. If they turn out to be un repairable then I may need to take up an offer of a good second hand unit. So fingers crossed, many thanks,Tom
