For a few months now i have been having an irritateing running problem with the Cerb.

When pulling away in what ever gear or giving the car instant throttle. It would feel like it was running on four cylinders or like it was choking up.progressive pushing of the throttle seemed to clear it. Anyway a couple of weeks ago i put some petrol in and then left the car for two weeks. I got in it last night and went to work and the car run perfectly.

All the problems i had,had vanished. I pulled in to another petrol station to put more fuel in,and noticed i had left the fuel cap off from my previous visit.

Now what i want to know is. Could a blocked breather and a vacum problem cause running problems. Like the one i have???.

And just to mention. I have changed leads, plugs,TP,s Coil packs, and fuel pressure regulator.

I had something similar, blocked breather on the fuel tank.

The tank would suck in as far as it would go and then the engine started to be starved of fuel. Would get a big whoosh of air when I undid the cap and you could hear the fuel tank going back into shape....

Where is the breather located. Is it around the neck area,or around the top of the tank??

the breather is just behind the neck, there is a black hose that leads to a flexible rubber bulb and then out through another hose through the bulkhead and into the carbon can in the passenger side wheel arch

Can the carbon can give problems???. I have left the cap off today, and had no further problems.

The fuel tank vent goes to the carbon can so if the can is blocked it causes problems

I believe some cars have had issues with the fuel venting into the carbon can and blocking it.

But the most likely cause is the rollover valve.

There is a small bore fuel hose that connects to the fuel filler pipe just above the tank. The other end goes to a rollover valve that is bolted to the body just above the fuel tank near the filler. The valve is then connected to the carbon can via anther piece of hose.

Disconnect the hose from the filler neck and blow gently down it. If the rollover valve is stuck you will have trouble blowing air through it and into the carbon can. If you blow too hard you'll force the valve closed. I replaced the plastic ford valve with a nice alloy one from mocal which cured the venting problems. It can also be dismantled for cleaning should it start sticking.

It shouldn't be necessary if the fuel tank vents are working properly, but several times I've read of Chimaera owners with banging noises from the fuel tank (implying the tank is under suction). It seems common to leave the filler cap slightly loose to prevent this.

Well the problem has finally been sorted. With the proper diagnostic equipment. The fault was traced to a "New" coil pack intermittantly playing up.
