Seat Arosa Sport info

Hi GTmuse.
I'm a member over on SCN, but I don't know if you got the information you were looking for, so I thought I'd give you a few tips here
The biggest weakness on the Arosa is the pedal box - like the Polo and Lupo it can fail leaving you with very little clutch use and a hefty repair bill unless you are handy with your tools (the part is about £30, the labour can be £200-400!). This only affects vehicles with a cable clutch, not hydraulic, but as I drive a mk1 I'm not completely sure which type the Mk2 sport has. Symptoms to look out for though are:
Check the car over thoroughly for rust, common spots are wheel arches, top of the windscreen, around the fuel filler cap and on the A-pillars. The shell is galvanised though (I think that was the process - they are treated to prevent rust anyway!).
Don't let my minor essay put you off though! All cars have their problems, and these ones are pretty solid, and more than capable for a small car, city or motorway (or track)!

- Clutch pedal lower than brake pedal
- Stiff gear change
- Crunching into reverse
- Hard to engage first
- Clunky when moving 5th to 4th, 3rd to 2nd.
- Very Low bite point.

That's great thanks Lunalupi! I went on SCN but like you said, couldn't quite find the right info! The pedal box shouldn't cause too many problems money wise as i work for a VW dealership so could get discount parts and very cheap labour! Do you know if mechanically, the Arosa is the same as the Lupo or not? As if it is, it works out better for me as far as parts go!
I bought a black one for the wife when she passed her test about 6 years ago.
They are good to look at, and well designed, but not sporty by any means.
I cant believe they were 100bhp as feel slow, and they roll a lot.
Ours had an intermittent fault, an engine warning light would come up occasionally but everytime it went in under warranty, it never did it and was not stored in the memory. Very strange.

Hmm that's the first i've heard about that fault from threads i've read! Well it was my friends Lupo GTi that got me interested in them, i realise it isn't going to be in the same league as that, but i figure considering its such good insurance, i won't be able to get the same performance for that price out of anything :-/

The Mrs loved it, I remember the seats are good in them hugged really well, they were red and black in our black car.Dont be put off maybe ours was a one off with the engine light.
Be carefull if you change your suspension as it can void your insurance, or cost a fortune if you declare it.

That's a very good point notty - it's best to always declare any changes, even if they look standard. If you do a bit of phoning around though, and use discounts you get for being a member of an owners club of forum (like here) you can get the insurance down, often to not much more than for a standard car.To give an example, I only pay about £100 more for all my mods - I can do anything I like to the vehicle, and add 30bhp, for nothing extra

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I suspect you may be quite young if you plan to do pass plus...
The way the insurers view it is that if you are a member of a club they recognise, you are likely to take more care of your car and be more sensible with the right foot, therefore less likely to have an accident.
However if you are only just passing your test, may I recommend holding off on the modifications for a mere 12 months (I know it feels like a lifetime!) until you get your first years NCB. You will find that will suddenly reduce your premium, often by 50%! Making modified insurance much more affordable.

Yeah my nextdoor neighbour's first car was 3.5litre V8!? I'm lucky to push a 1.6 haha! I was gunna get the 1.68v Saxo Vtr, but the performance on paper is the same as the arosa but with an extra £1500insurance premium! Then i noticed all Saxo's, Corsa's and 106's had really high insurance even a 1.1 due to the whole chavvy boyracer image that goes with them!!

t have high insurance because they are generally driven by knobs!
