Here goes.Had a friend pop up today to take a look at my new car.Which has not been moted for approx four years.Chassis looks good some flaking of grey plastic coating missing,Careless jacking in the past.We are going to remove the cills 2.8 .And look at out riggers seat belt mounting etc .What diamater tube is used for out riggers and what gauge of steel.Another can of worms coming.i want to repaint the complete chassis .Clean with white sprit. What paint do you guys use por 15. or wax oil .dinnatrol .etc.My mate is very good welder no problems there.I welcome your thoughts Cheers Mike

In the good old days it would have been inch and a half diameter but these days you have to make do with 38mm smile
The wall is nominally 2mm, but it seems to be getting harder to get hold of so there's no harm in using 3mm (1/8") as long as you get the penetration right... which your mate will, of course smile

Whichever paint you use, I'd go over it with old-fashined underseal as it helps stone bounce off. Also check the condition from time to time, there doesn't seem to be a paint that genuinely survives very well on chassis. POR has its supporters, I tend to use Smoothrite but some report poor results...

They don't sell non-metric steel there anymore? I found my relacement 1.5 x .125 very easily.

Just another part of our heritage sold out to the continentals. irked

I'd probably feel more at home across the pond now.

They talk in km per hour on OUR F1 coverage now...totally meaningless to the MAJORITY of our population....don't get me started. furious
