The Birkett 2009... 28th October

A few of us have gotten together to put a team together for the Birkett.

Details are £1260 per team which works out at about £210 for a team of 6 cars.

The following are definitely up for it this year and to that end a 6 car team is being formed.

Richard and Ben Wright (AJP Tuscan)
Dries and Cantus (AJP Tuscan) To be Confirmed
Gary Lancashire AJP tuscan


1st reserve Dave Chant (Tasmin)
2nd reserve Phil Dickinson (V8 Tuscan)
3rd Reserve Richard Hewit (Griffith)
4th reserve Nick record
5th reserve Owen O'neil

It would be great if we could field 2 full TVR teams this year and if so I think we would stand a very good chance of an overall win.

At worst 2 teams of 5 would be do-able and to this end we really could do with some more guys to sign up.

Its a great event and offers a lot of track time under race conditions for little outlay. A good end to the year prior to the long winter.

Anyone else from the Tuscan Challenge interested or our Point and squirt friends??

When did they move it to Wednesday? I think you'll find it's on the 24th this year

I would love to join a TVR team, especially as I am unlikely to be at Angelsey or Oulton Park due to weekend work commitments. My Griff should even be running on all 8 cylinders by then!

I've done it a few times, and its a laugh, a couple of times with all tasmins and one mixed team.

We've always done it with a team of 4 cars..

1 car on track, 1 car in the pit garage fueled up with the driver strapped in and ready to go at a moments notice, 1 car sat behind it fueled with the driver in the garage, and the 4th car being prepped.

The way to win is to be consistent with your lap times, and obviously spend the minimum time in the pits, so the longer you can run on fuel the better, some of the teams will run 4 cars for 1.5 hours each which gives them a big advantage..


last time we did it was with a Taz, mg midget, G20, and a westie...

The mg blew its box after the first 20 mins, my taz managed 90seconds before dropping a valve, on its second session the G20 siezed a wheel bearing and did a lap with a locked wheel. leaving it all to the westie, and even that cried enough stopped on the circuit... in the only place you couldnt get recovery from without the pace car being out... we did eventually get the ginetta and the westie back out but we also came last !!!!!


My only worry at the moment would be your leaving it a bit late for the entry, it usually fills up in the first week its out, so get to it guys ..

Ive done two birkett races with leigh's taz in the past its good fun but there is huge difference in speeds on the track between the cars. As G said tasmins will run for about 30 mins max.

William (aka Cantus, the Long Kenian for us) phoned me today about this and we will try to attend either the Oulton Park final race of the season or the Birkett race.

As i am currently in the south of France on vacation, we will let you know as soon as possible, both events sound like real fun, but we have to choose one of them depending on availability of crew, for us it is a Blackpool aan den Rijn team-effort.

Drop me a line when you are back Dries. John / Tony are going to send in an entry and your name is on It but if you decide to do oulton instead then we will pull in first / 2nd reserve. If you do do the oulton Round then you have amandatory attendance at the evening party.

You could always do Anglesey and the Birkett a few weeks later.
