Lambo: Unleaded or Super Unleaded???
Discussion
I'll be interested to hear what owners do. I do know that on my car (Modified Evo 8 with standard ECU, albeit remapped) there are 2 maps: High and Low octane. They have differnt fueling and ignition timing. The car will measure the knock count and when knock is detected it will interpolate the fueling and timing down from the high octane map towards the low octane map. After a period with no knock it will start to interpolate back towards the high octane map.
So higher octane allows the running of more advanced ingition timing, but in most boggo cars they will not be mapped to take advantage of this higher octane. As I said, the Evo does do this and it will be interesting to hear what the Lambo's do. I know I _always_ fill with V-Power (and only when that's not availible will I use another high octane fuel like BP Ulitmate or something) so my car always runs the high octane map with no knock (proven using on road logging). But it's nice to know that the car will automatically pull timing if I had to use lower octane fuel (eg bung in £10 to get me to a shell garage).

Super unleaded goes in everything i run.
Specifically V-power as i was told by a fuel chemist (who works for bp) that it's a good 10 years more advanced than any other fuels and they spend the extra money on much better detergents.
Also if your car has a knock sensor (anything post 2002 will have) you will gain performance after 2-3 continuous tanks of super unleaded as it will re-learn.

Shell V Power every time.
Same in the Esprit.
It matters more in turbo charged cars - especially (as mentioned above) with some of the cleverer Jap ECUs...
It *shouldn't* matter which you put in but knock is not your friend and can kill a car in seconds so, having bought £100k+ supercars why skimp 4 or 5p per litre?!

Exactly, and over 60 litres the difference in price will be £4.20 as v-power is 7p a litre more than standard!!

Shell V Power in everything, including the mower!
Ok thanks, I did not know if this was just marketing bolony...having worked for a large multi national that owns different laundry brands, i know the cheaper one is virtually identical to the market leader - just a different perfume scent...Also heard that putting super unleaded in only really helps older cars- not really beneficial to brand new/1-2 yr olds..

Are you serious, that a chemist who works for BP recommended their Shell rival over their own Ultimate fuel?Specifically V-power as i was told by a fuel chemist (who works for bp) that it's a good 10 years more advanced than any other fuels and they spend the extra money on much better detergents.

I'd always been led to believe that even when you get past the 95 vs. 99 RON side of things, the additive package in V-Power was much better than in other fuels when it comes to keeping your engine clean.
Also yes it costs a little more but can result in more MPG so the cost difference repays itself (I lurk here, I'm speaking from experiences in my humble Boxster).
Maybe I've just fallen for the marketing.

i ran my car on only v power for the first couple of months, the last five tanks or so has been regular unleaded, i'm still getting pretty much the same miles per tankAlso yes it costs a little more but can result in more MPG so the cost difference repays itself (I lurk here, I'm speaking from experiences in my humble Boxster).
