PH Photography trip to the HIghlands of Scotland?
Discussion
Morning guys,
Was sitting around this morning, dreaming of taking some proper photos (distinct lack of action at the moment...) when I thought of a possible trip to the Highlands of Scotland over the autumn/winter.
This is very much a brainstorming exercise at this point in time, however I was thinking maybe 4/5 days in the West to North West Coast of Scotland around the New year, incorporating stunning scenery, beer, accomodation and driving... all at the same time.
Not sure if this does anything for anyone, I will be going up anyway

As you know only too well John - the weather in early Jan, combined with the REALLY short days (18+ hours dark here) would make such a trip really hit and miss (mostly miss unless you are really lucky).
Funnily enough, December seems to be much nicer than both Nov and Jan - with the snow falling (to sea level) first week of Feb (well that's how it's been the last 3 years).
Could you not do it in late April / early May, not Jan? Usually still snow on the hills, no midges or tourists. Hotels/B&Bs less booked than early Jan.
ETA - If you look at my 'pic-a-day for a year', you'll see how I REALLY struggled in Jan... sometimes resorting to taking photos of the local 'Spar'! http://www.stevecarter.com/picaday/page2.htm

Im going up again next Saturday for a week (last month on the bike but cut short due to several factors).
We're staying a couple of nights in Oban, then its up to Applecross for 2 nights, then looking at Gairloch (or maybe miss this and head up to Ullapool) for another 2 before coming down to Blairgowrie for the night and back home
Hoping for better weather than last month!
