8:00pm - 9:00pm
BBC2
7/7
A mixed bag of a series (fun challenges, naff studio bits - it's becoming a pattern) revs up for what looks like a strong finish. For a start, the guest is US chat-show host and car lover Jay Leno, who should be hilarious on the sofa and very quick around the track. Meanwhile, the usual Top Gear cry of "How hard can it be?" is applied to making car adverts. Jeremy Clarkson and James May attempt to make memorable TV spots for Volkswagen, then present them, Apprentice-style, to gurus at an advertising agency. DVDs weren't available but we gather that, perhaps predictably, May tries to fill the airtime with details of fuel economy, while Clarkson wants everything to explode.

Radio Times reviewer - David Butcher

I'm looking forward to the Jay Leno interview and hopefully it will be a bit longer than usual. With all those cars and bikes I would expect him to be fairly quick round the track too. Sunday nights won't be the same for a while shoot

Have we really had 7 episodes already? It doesn't seem like it. Curses.

I thought the series was 8 episodes? The TV guides have a Top Gear next sunday, but the info is for an episode from last series, the Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank of fuel?!?

They have done this before, put repeats on at the end of a new series....

Motoring news and views from the usual team. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are challenged to drive from the heart of Switzerland to the northwestern coast of England on just one tank of fuel. And as an incentive, the first one to arrive gets to turn on the Blackpool Illuminations.

Everyone seems to moan about it everyweek, but what do we watch at 8PM on a Sunday now? Dinner Ladies on Gold?

Why are the new series only 7 episodes? It should be double that!

I am hoping that the usual suspects who watch it and then complain on here are going to watch Countryfile or Wifeswop

But they do 2 series a year. The early series is normally only 6-7, with 8-11 in the Autumn/Winter. So you always get around 18 episodes a year. Most I think was 20, 2x10.

Maybe they have been the victim of the 'savage BBC production costcutting cuts'

I hate how he's started talking like Clarkson. And dressing like a lesbian.

I like those chavvy australian cars.

I thought he was taking the mick, sort of sending him up.
