Hi All

Well as ive had so many positive replys from my last topic, ive been looking hard to find a car!...one concern though

the Two I fancy so far.....

2005 Sagaris 3300 miles only... My concern with this car however is it was
last serviced in September 2005! and had done 2900 miles..nothing since!!

Trouble is im thinking its either not been used for nearly three years or
it has been clocked!!!...should I avoid?

2006 Burgandy Sagaris at Boss performance 11000 miles one owner, but in the ad its states it has a close ratio Gearbox and Hewland Differential and has been decatalysed...is that a bad thing and signs of massive track use???

Im not in any hurry to buy, and really want to find a good one!, any advice would be greatly recieved and ALSO IF ANYONE knows of any lary
coloured ones for sale let me know...Lime green / yellow /Orange as
I LOVE THEM BOLD lol!!!!!!!!

Cheers!

Nope - not sign of it being used on a track. You'd need to ask the owner that unfortunately. De-cated is a good thing - just wait til your hear it smile

Was tempted to go look at that one before I got mine.

good luck in the hunt.

The Red Glow Sag at Boss is mine.

It has never been tracked.

Let me know if you want to know anything else

Little point clocking a car back to suspiciously low mileage. It just sounds like she hasn't been used much, these cars are often weekend toys (though 3300 in four years is a shame). You might want to consider a fluids change and careful starting...

I would suggest that if it doesn't have aircon as suggested in another thread, then driving any further in it would simply have been too unbearable biggrin

This one however is a beauty http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1141104.htm and I know the owner would rather saw his leg off than sell it ... if only he wasn't being relocated to Hong Kong in January banghead

Are you saying that the last time this car was serviced was 2005 at 2900m and since then it has covered a further 400 miles; if so that can not be good for a car like this; can it>

Also what about checking the valves etc

You need to speak to the owner of the specific car and not gather generic advice - its not always applicable.

Cars can be stored correctly and be no worse for it. The mileage is nice if correct and it has been stored well. It will need some amount of recommissioning - all fluids and a spanner check with sucha mall mileage in the last few years. As for valve clearances, have them checked but I would not expect to see any movement in such a short time after the intial 1000 mile check.

Or you could buy a car with more wear and tear as seems to be the advice on here so often...

Thanks ALL!

Really good advice!...having not owned a TVR before I had no idea about valve clearances etc etc!

I think I will try and find out a little more from the previous owner ( if the garage lets me)

Failing that - Like i said if anyone knows of/ or is selling a low milage Yellow / green or Oroange sag just send me a PM!

Hopefully ill find one soon and will get to put somes faces to some above names!

Cheers!

To be honest, there are a few cars out there with faulty sensors, so whilst the owner might not have deliberately clocked it, it is possible that the mileage shown on the display is not the most accurate in the world.

But mileage aside, the thing that would concern me about the 3,300 mile one is the fact that it hasn't had a service since 2005. That's 4 years! Even if the car has been stood in a garage all the time - as I have done in the past with various toys, you still get them serviced - if for no other reason than getting the stamp in the book. And you have to ask yourself if an owner hasn't bothered with this, what else haven't they bothered with?

It might look good but I'd be a bit cautious myself.

I am inclined to agree with the above.

I'm inclined to think its absolute tosh. Why would you want to spend 3K+ on something that's not needed.

I have a mint 30 year old Ducati thats not turned a wheel in 5 years and the furthest thing from my mind was getting it serviced every year. Is it worse for it, of course not, but it will require correct commissioning before re-use.

The point I was making earlier..

I can help you with that - LOL

Sorry what do you mean by correct commissioning mate, I would have thought a full fluids change (oil, brake, gearbox etc etc), new tyres all round and some very careful driving for the first few hundred or so miles on longish trips.

I could also be talking absolute rubbish so happy to be corrected.

Your pretty much on the ball, but its does depend how long the vehicle has stood, you may even be into changing seals in the hydraulic systems. Supsension will need a dose of looking at too - even if its been on stands

As an example, the Ducati will have all the above and new cam belts, chain/sprockets, fork oil (seals?) and rear shock service. The Duke was 25 year old with 35000 miles on the clock when it was taken out of service. A 5 year old car with 2900 miles should require less work.

Funnily enough, I also had a Ducati that hadn't turned a wheel for over three years - but when it came to selling it, I got the belts changed and did all the usual stuff, which I think gave any prospective buyer the confidence that it was a 'proper' bike that had been looked after. I made sure that this was all documented and the new owner was made aware of it.

Ok, the Sag may not have been serviced - whether a problem or not, but you would be wanting the thing to be given a proper once over, and you would expect this to be detailed in the advert. It just seems to be a bit sloppy in my opinion.

You pays your money and makes your choice.

The question is how much damage can it possible have in 3000 miles without a service??? Also I guess no A/C means less to go wrong!!!

I thought it was last serviced at 2900 miles and nothing since the last service. Its important it had its 1000 miles service on time. How much damage has been done in 400 miles...drive it, see how it feels, get a warranty.

I would say that the dealer is well respected.

I would have been there by now if I was really serious about a Sag...
