Does anyone know if you can turn off the alarm on a Monaro VXR? I need the key to activate the central locking, but not arm the alarm.

We are off to France at the end of the week with the car riding on a train down to the Med while we relax in our cabin drinking wine....

Ideally I'd like to have the alarm deactivated so that it isn't sounding all the way down leaving me with a flat battery when I get off at the other end...

I know I can just turn the key in the lock (or at least, I think this works) but I can't trust the French chap who will be loading the car onto the train to do this and not just hit the blipper.

Any ideas?

Well yes, but can I trust the french train people to do that when they could use the button? I'm trying to protect myself against them just doing the easy thing and leaving me with a flat battery.

But won't it go off almost permanently due to being rocked about on the back of the train?

actually whats the score with taking the car on the train? IT must be cheaper than tolls/petrol we spent a fortune last time. Do you have a link to who you are using as we need to go away in August and I dont fancy a 12 hour drive to the south coast

We are using French Motorail - www.raileurope.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=493

I think it costs around the same as driving down. When we go we take two days over it, so when you add together your petrol, tolls, hotel, dinner, lunches, etc. it can cost easily £500+ each way to drive (gulp!).

French Motorail varies, but is around £500-600 each way. Key is that it only takes one day - or rather, one night, so you effectively save a day that you get back on the beach instead of driving.

You get the ferry/chunnel across to Calais then get on a train. The train leaves around 8pm with your car on the trailer and you in a cabin. It arrives the following morning around 9am in the South of France, you get your car back and you go down to the beach!

Not done it before so this year is an experiment. I'll let you know how it goes.

i think it usually costs us around 240 to get down inc fuel and motel (we do the drive up, swipe card get room thing just outside Albi before going on to carcassone. In the past we have done the return legs in a day. 500 for a choo choo = too much for my tight pockets wink
