Just had a chat with one of the Lotus chappies at the Geneva Motor Show - he mentioned Lotus could be back in the Market with a 2+2 sports car...... Sounds v. interesting especially when you have 2 kiddies.

It would certainly fill a niche that no one else is catering to very well.

One of the biggest mistakes Lotus made (IMHO) was not coming up with a successor to the Excel when there was clearly a gap in the market for a decent 2+2 sportscar ... and still is too a large extent (though there is now the Cerbera of course).

I imagine there are a lot of Lotus and other sportscar enthusiasts who, having owned a 2 seater and then acquired a family, would be interested in moving onto a 2+2 if it was available.

Absolutely. My dad has long been a Lotus fan - having started on a Rochdale (similar to an MG but glassfibre monocoque chassis, so extremely lightweight), he has driven the Excel, Esprit and Elise. His favourite? The Excel. Best engine of the lot, fantastic R&H and mum couldn't grumble about the lack of seats for us kids. If they can make it as fast and as practical as the new all glass roof 996 with a lifting tailgate to get at the boot, I reckon they wont be able to make enough of 'em!
