Searching for a car we used to own??

Hi All,
I apologies if this question has already been asked either here or on other forums.
I am trying to find what happened to a 1275 GT that my mother used to own and have not been able to make much progress, so thought I would see if anyone else had done this kind of thing before.
I have done the DVLA search and it has not returned anything. An RAC car search on the Registration number shows the basic details (reg year, make, model, colour etc etc) but no reference to its last taxations or anything like that. It was first registered in Northern Ireland in 1975, so I have contacted the NIDVLA to see if they have anything and am waiting for them to get back to me.
The main reason for the search is that I want to find either the car, or find out if the number plate still exists, in order to make a replica of it. It was used by my mother in most of the major International Rallies in Northern Ireland (Ulster, Circuit of Ireland etc etc) in the late 70s and early 80s - no real provenance (a Ladies prize in the 82 Ulster) but have always wanted to do it.
Any ideas gratefully received....
