Hi folks, I hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
Driving home today in my MK1, all 3 gear change lights lit up and and the LED wend black. This happened once before, and I thought I had fixed it by giving the pod a real fault to chew on (door open). This time it seems like a more solid problem. Its possible it may go away again like last time, but it is an irritant - those LED's are very bright! Has anyone had this before?

sounds like the dash memory battery may have gone flat, when this happens all of ur settings are reset to default, so all the shift lights are set low, mine went to 3000 rpm and the contrast has changed on ur display.
to know for sure try entering the set up mode on the lcd display and changing the contrast. as u cant see anything on the display the contrast option will b the 3rd push of the toggle button ( the buzzer volume is on the 2nd push of the button and will sound when ur adjusting the volume.)
once u have changed the contrast you should be able to read the settings for the shift light.
the other tale tale is that most things will have reset, clock and sometimes mileage
im just taking mine apart so if this sounds like the problem il post the battery number up on here so you can get one before you start taking things apart.
if its just a battery then u can change this in place by removing the upper cowling ( 1 phillips screw either side) ul need some needle nose pliers to fish the battery out.
the battery is on the 3rd plate from the back, on the right of the circuit board.

Definately temp related, only happens on hot days and sitting in traffic.Seriously, could it be temp dependant...the car was hot last night this morn - cool ? weird
