Has anybody here ever driven to Ibiza?

We are thinking about doing that in a few weeks, just wondering if anyone has any tips on best route, where to book , where to stay (with car) etc

thanks

usually get the ferry from denia but it can be expensive

road wise its just 1 motorway from france but the tolls do add up.

last time the denia - ibiza ferry was Eur 350 - 400

so to be honest prob cheaper to park at valencia/alicante fly and hire a car but its always nice to have your car.

maby price a ferry from barcelona / valencia / alicante ? ?

thanks for all your help guys

Ive finally got the car i have always wanted (m3 cab) which is part of the reason i wanna drive down, it wouldnt be half as much fun flying there and hiring the usual stuff ie, Punto, 306 cabrio

We may just go from barcelona down the coast to valencia then benidorm - Ibiza cant be all that much different plus at this time of the year it could be hard to find a decent hotel not too pricey in ibiza. I dont fancy stayin at a 18-30 type place with the car, it'd probably get trashed by some drunk lout at 3am

Decisions decisions...

Driving in Ibiza is lethal anyway, do you really want your new motor taken out by some pilled up spaniard?
If you've got to drive down then I'd leave the car on the mainland!

yes benidorm is full of northeners in football shirts but they have spent a lot of money there and isnt as bad as you think.

there is a big water park about 2 mile outside terra metica well worth a visit

have you ever driven down there from England? i dont fancy spending hundreds on tolls but dont wanna add lots of time on avoiding them, what do you recommend?

i have done this on the plymouth - santandere ferry then just driven north / south across spain. much nicer route and you get a "mini cruise" thrown in.

only ever done via tolls etc so can comment on the other ways, the other option is ferry to bilbao its a overnight ferry and usually quite expensive but then just a trip north to south.

I have done the UK to Denia journey a number of times and last year, coincidentally, in an E46 M3 Cab. If you pull up the Michelin route planner and map out your journey it will give you the exact tolls and the locations of the fixed speed cameras.
One word of warning and not suggesting it is going to happen to you but I got an amber engine warning light about halfway through the journey down which was a bit worrying to say the least. Anyway, we carried on and popped it into a BMW dealer when we got there but just as we pulled up it disappeared. It came on during the return journey and again disappeared before I could get it to the dealer in the UK. I booked it in, they checked it out and could not find anything wrong. A year later and I have yet to see it again. General consensus of opinion seems to be that its a combination of the quality of the petrol in France/Spain, continuous high speeds and high temperatures which causes the emissions sensor to get confused and bring on the warning light.

Wow alxce that M3 looks gorgeous in that colour

thanks for your help, can you recommend any hotels or good roads on the way down? did your car ever attract unwanted attention?
