Okay all, a challenge for you.

We're looking for a hotel not more than 2 hours drive from Calais and want it to tick the following boxes:-

1. Cost less than £100 give or take.

2. Have or be within walking distance of a fantastic restaurant (cost not really an issue within reason)

3. Have TVR friendly parking.

It can be done, we managed it earlier this year and found a place just south of Dunkirk but are floundering a little this time!

Our minds are totally open to suggestion.

We have no plan other than the times of the ferry and a quick stop off to stock up on essential cooking ingredients smile

That's at the edge of our driving range, but the idea of a strop there and a steady drive back along the back roads the following afternoon/evening could appeal.

The direction isn't important, the destination is.

Thanks for that, I'll have a good look round the site later. First glance suggests it might be one to look at for another time though when we can afford to spend a couple of nights away.

This place just outside Epernay is lovely. Bear in mind though that Saturdays in August are (AFAIK) changeover day so the roads can be shocking.

What about Ypres. Good Novotel in the centre, plenty to see in the area and some cracking restaurants as well. Think the Novotel has its own underground car park as well.

Le Touquet.

Have a Google at some of the hotels around there - I've just come back from a day trip, I think it would tick most of your boxes.

Slightly further mileagewise and a visit to Martins hotel in Brugge.
Brugge is about an hour from Calais, we use the Azalea Hotel as it has covered parking, it claims to be 4* but I'd put it at 3, myself. Easy to find (once you know the set-up) but Bruges is not really car friendly, as in the streets in the old part of town are mostly cobbled, not that wide, and populated with suicidal cyclists and pedestrians.

The beers, restaurants and ambience make up for it, though.
