It strikes me that the layout when posting seems quite dated.

Will it be a possibility in the future to incorporate an easier and clearer layout similar to these-





A multi-quote post also saves a lot of hassle.

Not in this case though, it's hardly complex.

The main ones that would be much handier are with the bold, italics and underlining.

To the OP, what kiteless is demonstrating here, is that you don't 'need' to have a GUI for fonts - you can type them in. Such as, and not including the spaces; [ b ] = bold text. [ i ] italic.
etc. etc.

AFAIK, pistonheads vision is on having the simplest (cleanest and tidiest,) layout of any forums available. Like gmail to hotmail. One is cluttered, over-crowded and contains much useless information - the other is simple and easy

PistonHeads has always had a pretty minimalist look and that is not something we intend to change.

The PH code system allows us to do things which would be quite hard to do with a button based editor and (as others have pointed out) is quicker and easier once you have learnt the tags.

I agree that it is not very newbie friendly though, so we will look into how we can best introduce people to it.

Funnily enough I did look at the formatting help, it says nothing about having to format each line in a paragraph if there's a space between each line.

It was just a simple suggestion, highlight the text and press a button rather than typing [ i ] and [ /i ] after each line.

Fair enough if it wouldn't allow you to do other things but it is easier and clearer.

That is because that is not an intentional feature!

There is a new version of the PH parser (the thing which processes all the formatting) waiting to go live, which should remove a lot of these "quirks".

mainly because I know lots of its foibles and can appear knowledgable in the WF forum
