Lots of accomplished Brits emigrate and leave the UK to start a new life elsewhere every year.
I probably don't need to go into the reasons of what drives people out- you only have to scan the pages of these forums. If you had to emigrate- where would you go? It has to be realistic- so that your chosen field of what you do for a living can be done there too, but the question assumes the visa/work permit or points system or whatever is all sorted and there's no problem moving. It's also assuming kids schooling/transfer would go smoothly. Where would you go and why?

Probably New Zealand. Heard lots of positive things about it, nice and quiet with lots to do if you like the outdoors.

It is a nice place to live. I'm surprised it's not on the list.

Already done so, one vote for Asia / Far East.

No desires to go back to Europe for anything other than a holiday!

Me too...

Not knocking Australia, but have a look in the Oz forum at some current threads before assuming coming here will solve all your problems.

I have to say that when we last went for a holiday I was really suprised how much I enjoyed the place (La Rochelle area) and could even imagine myself living there.

Yep. Fair share of problems here.

I think if you think that moving halfway around the world will fix all your problems then you are a bit deluded

I'm never going back to the UK. Bulgaria has it all for me. Unbeleivably cheap living, 9 month long summer, relaxed pace of life, and only 2 fixed speed cameras in the entire country.

Lived in Italy for 5 years and loved it. Great food, wonderful weather and stunning women.
Now split my time between London, New York and Buenos Aires.

Maybe so, but it would at least mean I had access to cheap unpasturised cheese, lots of proper ham and decent Baguettes. Don't need much more than that really...

Somewhere in the far east with a sensible tax regime and a legal/political system based on the pre-Labour days. smile

New Zealand - definitely. Queenstown would be great but in order to find work/business I'd probably need to live within commuting distance of Christchurch.

We're too old, now, but it was the first place the Missus has ever said she would move to from the UK.

T'other benefit is that it's only a few hours flight time from Australia - another cracking country to visit (and I have lived there).

Going through the process right now. Application in with the NZ immigration, just awaiting a response. Wellington for me, eventually. Plan to spend some time in the Hawkes Bay area forst, Mrs C's parents have a farm there.
