That gunky crap that gets in your eyes that is designed to collect dust and pollen and keep it away from the eyes.... I seem to get loads, but not sure why or how??

I wash my face every night after taking the contacts out (sometimes have spent all day in glasses) and then go to sleep, but when I wake in the morning it can be so bad that my lashes are glued together with the crap and sometimes it irritates my eyes.

I need to put the contacts back in for my day of work and as such was wondering if anyone knew a way to reduce or stop this occuring (without side effects) as its not good to put contacts in irritated red eyes in the morning.

If they're red, irritated and sticky it sounds more like conjunctivitis than the normal gunk. I'm no eye doctor but I'd say stop the contact lenses and use a course of chloramphenicol eye drops as long as there's no light sensitivity or other problems.

The redness is not pink eye, its more the just woken up thing, or like when you have had no sleep or drank too much booze.

It kind of mostly goes by the end of the day and then I put the glasses on when I get home and that does til sleep time, but then I get redness again in the morning.

Solution is just saline nothing more.

I usually take them out at 6pm and put the glasses on so its not like they are only getting taken out just before sleep

Hmm, they need to be disinfected, i used to be lazy and just soak in saline, but i ended up nearly going blind in one eye, off work for 6 months and had corneal scarring.

Thankfully it all cleared up, but it was close!

And therein lies part of your problem Si - they are not getting cleaned nor disinfected.

Get new ones & solutions. I think your current pair will be past repair (but I'm no optition wink), just better to be safe.

Also sounds like conjuctivitus to me - a week without lenses in and the eye drops the Dr gives you will sort that out.

If you really can't be arsed with solutions, swap to dailes.

Better to spend the money on solutions/dalies than damage your eyes...

Not sleeping is the cure I found works the best. Although all the people around me seem to disagree. And they're asking me to start fires.

Probably blepharitis. Bathe eyes with cooled down boiled water mixed with a couple of drops of johnsons baby shampoo, twice a day. It'll get better soon. You can apply a warm flannel over the eye first. Very common and very easy to deal with.

Had that before and that was the solution, but not to this level tho it has calmed down a lot since the first time....

Cheers will pick some up at the weekend.

bit leftfield but trust me. eat as much fresh ginger as you can , in stir fries etc . even ginger beer , as long as it has real ginger in it. try it for a few days and then you can thank me. bet you also feel a bit hot and bothered ,sleep really well and have a healthy appetite

not taking the pish and will not do you any harm

i could explain the theory but it would make me sound a bit mad
