Hi All,
A few years ago I did a complete body off restoration of my S3. I am getting itchy fingers again and I want a new project. I really fancy doing a ground up restoration of a Griff.
With the S3 I bought one in OK condition, drove it for a couple of years and then did the rebuild. This time I would prefer to start with a Griff that already needs a body off rebuild and buy it for a reduced price.
Now I know that these run down Griff's must exist. I even saw a very sorry example a couple of years ago at the V8 Centre that had been purchased for £3k that was being rebuilt. But I can't seem to find one. Anyone know the best places to watch for adverts.
Also, are new chassis still available. I had the S3's rebuilt but I think I would prefer to build onto a new chassis this time if that is possible.

I was turning up stones around the country about a year ago looking for that same bargain. I let a car go as i didn't have enough time to commit to sorting it. It appeared on fleebay and from memory it went for £3200 which i thought was a good price. I have stuck a load of photos online so you can see what you'd have gotten for your dosh.

The next one I came across was listed in the pistonhead classifieds, again about a year ago. It was on for a while at £6500, went for a look and it had had a hard life. The interior needed gutting, the seats were from a tuscan and poorly fitted, it was a pre-cat with a 500 nose, and it also had been questionably fettled under the bonnet by a previous owner. I went round to make a £5k offer but no joy, went on holiday a few weeks later only to return to see it had reappeared on pistonheads for £4500 and guess what ..... it sold quickly, but not to me! Certainly worth the price and would have been a good starting point for a resto project.
There was also one on fleebay again probably about 6 months ago that was an unfinished cat d repair.
Bit of a waffle there but in the 12 months i was looking I came across 3. So in my experience, take your time, look at PH & fleebay regularly and one will come up eventually. In the end I bought something more usable for a few grand more but when the kids grow up and bugger off I'll be hunting again ..... only another 18 years to wait!

I'm not great with body work so essentially I will be looking for one that is sound in the body but has simply been attacked by the tin worm.
