Maximum Oil Temperature SBC?

I'm using Valvaline VR1 20/50 and on trackdays don't know what maximum oil temperature is acceptable.

The car doesn't have a fan on the oil cooler or a side scoop.

Normal temp should be around 80 degrees, but I think around 105 is safe. 110 from what I recall is about where I would be thinking of stopping to cool down.
If your travelling in clear air I doubt you would see those sort of temps anyway.
The factory fans cut in at 98 degrees btw.

I think you are thinking of the fans for the water radiator as the factory supplied oil cooler kit does not come with a fan.
Even with a bit of spirited road driving you should never need a fan on the oil cooler matrix but on track it is a necessary addition

If you do need a fan, I would recommend Car builder soloutions as they have a huge inventory which Im sure will include a suitable fan.

Wet sump or dry? I run a dry sump system don't see anything over 100C even on track.

Are you using factory sender & gauge? I have come across issues with mismatched senders and gauges leading to erroneous readings.

280F (or 138C) is generally considered the maximum temperature for synthetic oils prior to them satrting to break down. Dino oils are less, because they have more random chain lengths, so 250F (120C).

A 20/50 viscosity may be okay with occasional excursion to that maximum, but even so the oil is pretty thin at those temps.

As above: My engine builder also recommended 20/50 for track use with the SBC -mine is also dry sumped.

Whilst we are talking fans I replaced my rad fans with higher output beasties which left me with spare fans so one of those is now on the oil cooler.

The car is a dry sumped SBC 530 and I get 105 degrees when pressing on.

Have heated the oil to 105 in a flask and the viscosity looks low and scary - haven't measured viscosity yet.
