which to buy? Tam, T350 or Sagaris
Discussion
Hi Guys
Apologies if there have been umpteen posts like this, but I'm currently selling my 430, and wanting to get another car I've wanted since I was a child, a TVR.
I'm only just starting to look in to this, so still researching, and havent driven one.
I fancied the Tamora for the open air side of things, the Sagaris as I was there at the motorshow at the NEC where they launched it, and was smitten, and the T350 just looks awesome.
I live in Scotland so will be using it on the awesome roads up here, and also occassionally on track, but i have an Elise mainly for that. I used to race Elises, so will be hoping to discover what these cars can really do.
Would really appreciate your feedback, pointers, track upgrades etc.
Is there much difference between a Sag and 350/Tam?
As much as i fancy the Sag, I'm looking to free up some £ at the moment, so trying to work out if it merits the extra £??
Thanks for your time and advice in advance
Andy

I have had all three and in my opinion the sag is by far the best. No offence to owners of the other cars but they just weren't a sag and the disappointment always got me. They are all great cars but very different. The sag just feels more planted on the road, takes corners better and gives the all important sense of occasion. Plus if you base it on photos taken then the sag wins hands down
Whatever you choose I am sure you will grin every time you get behind the wheel

Can't comment on the T350 as never owned, but I had a Tamora and now have a Sag.
The Sag is VERY planted on the road and gets heads turning everywhere she goes. The Tamora was as quick in a straight line but not so much round the corners and whilst still pretty, does not attract the same attention.
As for engine size, sure - the sag is a 4.0 whereas the Tam is a 3.6, but in the real world, you'd be hard pushed to notice. Round a track, a good driver in a Tam would wipe the arse of a novice driver in a Sag.
Build quality I'd say is on a par, although many say the Sag is better - sorry can't notice it myself as both of mine were great.
The Sag has aircon (although not all do), the Tamora was a cabriolet.
All in all, both great cars in their own right. I see however you are looking at freeing up some cash. For this reason, I'd go for the Tamora. Whilst I don't think its as good as the Sag, its also half the price.
To put it another way, in my opinion, the Tamora is 75% the car the Sagaris is but for 50% of the price.
Either way, I doubt you'll be dissapointed.

I'd say the Tamora is 90% of a Sagaris (if you're measuring certain aspects such as fast B road handling and lap times). It is 110% in other ways (while the Sagaris certainly stands out, you could never call one good looking). As is the T350. A lot is subjective, you need to go and drive them. They're all great. The Sag is VERY planted on the road and gets heads turning everywhere she goes. Interesting - I had Nitrons on my race car, and they were awesome. Is it expensive to do? Also how do the brakes stand up to track work?
Thanks for the advice guys. Given the range of comments, points of view, etc, it sounds like its not going to be an easy choice at all! which is great news!
The Ferrari goes in on SOR this week, so expect it will be gone when i get back from holiday in 10 days time, at which point it will be time to get hunting!
thanks for your comments

Gordon,
Quck comparison points.
Standard 3,6 T350. Quick steering and harsh supsension, noticeable thanks to the roll cage. Later cars with Billsteins rather than Harvey Baily suspension were improved. Nitrons are about the best budget package for improvements. Brakes are good as standard can be improved with pads and fluid. Bigger brake ugrade available (Red Rose) will increase stopping power but upsets the balance as a result of too much rear braking.
Tamora feels more compliant than the T350 as a result of the cage loss. All other points the same.
Sagaris. Bigger 4,0 engine gives more noticable torque rather than power. Initially dissapointing due to slower steering and safe undertseer set up from factory. Has the Red Rose brake package as standard, again can be improve with fluid and pads. Benefits from wider track and more rubber on the road. TVR worked with Billstein to deliver an excellent suspension package and can see no need to change it even for serious track use.
The biggest peformance varaiation in the cars will be down to gearing and gear box ratios rather than engine size. Some cars came with tall 3,46 final drive, others shorter 3,73. Good aftermarket swap is 3.91. Close ratio gearbox available on some cars, works well with 3.73 diff, better with ballistic 3.91. Dissaster with 3.46!
Out of the box, The Tamora is the better of the 3 cars if cost is considered - a standard Sag can not justify the premium, however, some small expenditure on the Sagaris will give you a nice road car and a track tool that will make Joe Average look like a driving demi-god.
Beware T350s and Tamoras with wider rubber, they will foul arches. Folk on here say otherwise...maybe they just cruise with them.
Looks are in the eye of the beholder.
I’ve owned a T350, 2 Sags and my wife has a Tamora. Would still have one of the Sagaris if it were not for ill health (got bitten by the racing bug..........) so the above - which I belive is balanced, is not just what I’ve taken from forums.
edited to add. All the cars I've based my comparison on have been owned from new, so the bias when comparing a newer model with an older different model (often confusing the issue) play no part in distorting my opinion. As an side, we still ave the Tamora

Take a standard spec version of each around a track and you will find the Sag handles better and has more grunt meaning a faster lap time. Of course you could spend enough money on any of the cars to make them perform better than any of the standard cars.Similarly with looks, the Sag (ok with my unbiased eyes
) is easily the best looking TVR ever made. But you can mod that too as you like at a cost.GordonF430 said:

IMHO yes. Yes they cost more to start with, but they have also held their value far better than the Tam or 350 so you will loose less long-term.Andy
What you want is the bast of both worlds.
A Tamora with uprated suspension - most of them will have by now anyway.
A Tam with a C/R box & 3.9 diff with either Bilsteins or Nitrons, upgraded brakes & a decent 4wheel geometry is as good if not better than a Sag- YOU CAN TAKE THE ROOF OFF....
Otherwise I'd have bought a Sag years ago.
If you want to know what I mean pm me & we can arrange to meet somewhere in the middle- drive a Sag first just to prove the point

If I did want a convertible I would go for a Tuscan 2 convertible IMO.
