Novotel is cheap and fairly central with pool at the expense of character

Not cheap but there aren't many 4* hotels in Le Mans if that is what you are after:

You'll never be able to stay here as it is fully booked out by the bigwigs of the ACO untill the next millenium!

The cost of staying in a hotel in Le Mans over the 24 hour weekend is double if not triple for the rest of the year, even a crappy novatel which has a standard price of 60 euros a night wanted 150 euros a night for friday and saturday. They really have become GREEDY!

Er - as a local resident the mark up on hotels is actually five times for Le Mans week. The Morgan club book the hotel Arbor on the Mulsanne straight but I hear couldn't fill all the rooms this year and sub-let some; at least that is the way the story goes anyway. Perhaps if out of town suits with a reasonable hotel and a good restaurant that might suit? Contact the Morgan club and see if they are prepared to play ball. Other than that there aren't many good hotels around Le Mans and most of the better ones are booked year on year so it's dead men's shoes I'm afraid.

Speak to Manuel at the Mercure Batignoles. Tell him Stewart suggested you call. We stay there for all the June (24 Hour) events and the Classic.

You can find contact details on the Mercure web-site.

The concorde it is then!

The le Mans Best Western is not bad but is a taxi ride or tram ride from the city centre.

The Ibis Le Mans Centre is just across the river from the Old Town so within walking distance of anywhere in Le Mans really. Its a basic clean hotel with an underground car park but the best I have stayed in and I've stayed in a few. :-)

Spoke to a friend in town on your behalf. He recommends the Chantecler (www.hotelchantecler.fr) as being near the station and near the town centre with a very good restaurant. I don't know it but my friend is from Le Mans and I'd stand by his recommendations.
