Supercharged Monaro
Discussion
Hi all
I'm thinking of moving into Monaro ownership, I currently have a 350z but now need a back seat (don't ask!
). Always liked the look of them, but wasn't sure if they might be too big.
I am tempted by the supercharged Monaro, but just wondered.. erm.. if they are safe?! I mean in the sense that do they kill the engine? Do they HAVE to be intercooled, because the official VXR500 doesn't appear to be? Or have I got that wrong? Sorry I realise these are probably very obvious questions to you guys, but I know very little about how cars actually work (I just drive them and then take them to somebody who knows what they are talking about if they go wrong!) and wouldn't like to buy something which then goes spectacularly wrong. I like the idea of the increased performance, but not if they are a time bomb waiting to go off.
Should I just stick with a standard one? Or would a VXR500 be perfectly safe? Or should I wait for one which has an intercooler? Or does the VXR500 already have an intercooler just that I didn't realise it?
Thanks for any advice, and I look forward to (hopefully!) joining the fold!

Hiya Livia
Good to have you here. The VXR500 is not intercooled. I dont believe any of the owners have had any problems with them. As for doing damage to the engine, there is no fear of that. These things are like trains. You will become very addicted to the power and sound of the beast. Its the best thing we ever did buying the Monaro. We love the car and forum. We love the meets and drag days. Its just a great place to be

Welcome. As a supercharged Monaro owner I can vouch that the engine suffers no real side effects. The only side effect is the improved fuel economy. I would have thought it would have been the other way but apart from the initial outlay to have one fitted it money well spent.
Sorry for the shameless plug....... If you are interested in an intercooled supercharged Monaro VXR mine goes on sale next week. If you wish I can email the details.

Order, order! I have loved VXR500 ownership for the last 2 years 8 months and would love to keep it, but my stable is getting rather too cluttered with 500BHP (or thereabouts) BHP beasts.
I would dearly love it to go to a good home.
Was only joking, what else have you got laid around thats 500bhp ish????
He has spent some money on it aftershock, but when i quized him about the £17k sale price he denied it and deleted his post. At the end of the day if someone wants to pay over the odds thats up to them. I have been visiting this forum for a while now and am only letting people know what i know because i think this is a great forum

Tigerkpt is selling one for a good (profit) emm i mean mean price.
He has spent a lot on it since getting the car to be fair, probably not even breaking even on it.
As we all know, modding it gets you nothing in return

Depends on the mods, alot wont see any return and also depends on the car. Ive sold a few cars in the past well above market value due to the mods on them, probably only got a 25% return on what had spent but still got some return!

Have no idea what he paid or now has it up for sale at, if it is over what he paid wouldnt be the first or last time it will happen on here. Again to be fair the cars have gone up in value every month this year (this month excluded) in the trade guides so techically not wrong to ask a bit more than paid for it!

Ignore the junior 500hp boys.... even with 600hp Ive had no issues at all...! Brill cars and everyone wants to chat to you about them when yr out and about.

Have to say I agree, I get more looks in the VXR500 than the GTR, prob cos of the soundtrack that accompanies it ;-)
