Evening all,

I recall somebody (and it may have been Ringram) mentioning a new design of Intake manifold due out that was supposed to be in an similar league as a FAST but not as much money.

Any one remember what it was called?

(and before anyone gets tempted, I have FGI'd but searching for the words "fast" and "intake" on this forum doesn't exactly narrow the field down that much )

Cheers.

Not in the same league! and the Starr L92 is the one I think you were thinking of-It never turned up - Lots of hype but Vapour ware.

For LS1/2 - Weind/StarrStreet Warrior(Plastic). Typhoon (Alloy) Dont bother with either. Ist does not perform, second will have heat sink issues.

Stick with a FAST, they're proven and is easily ported/blended/ port matched.

I have just fitted the FAST 90. There is also the later FAST 92, And for L92/LS3/LS7 there is the new FAST LSX102.

If you go for a FAST on an LS2 there are minor issues to resolve, but will be worth the gain, although it is an expensive way to add up to 15rwhp. They also give you a deeper induction tone and have bosses ready for nitrous nozzles to be added.

I think Fast flows 330cfm, stock LS2 is only like 230 or something rank.
Its part of removing bottlenecks. Depends on your power goals. But if you go LS3/LS3 top end the intake is much better. Maybe closer to 290cfm or something. Im guessing the numbers but the general trend is correct.
Arguably ported L92 heads and intake are just as good as some aftermarket cnc heads and fast intake.

Cheers chaps. I'm a 2004 VXR, so LS1 block with LS1 heads.

I'm investigating heads/cam/intake upgrade path with a view to kickstarting the global economy

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, I noticed someone has a LS2 intake on ebay at the moment, as I have the LS1 with Hitachi throttle electronic body (VZ CV8) would this be a cheap upgrade for me ? Or would my throttle body not connect up correctly ?

Cheers

Steven, you can "have" an LS2 manifold if we do that little job for you

No avoid the LS2 intake its much worse than the LS6 which is on all LS1 holdens post about 2001. Plus they require a 90mm throttle.
IMO just port your throttle.

All the LS intake are fusion welded and the joints between the halves can be a bit iffy leading to leakage and crossed signals between the intake runners. With the Fast there is a nice big silicone gasket between the bolted segments which keeps each runner honest, that's part of the reason these things are better than stock.

In that case you can't beat the L92/LS3 head/intake/cam package from Summit racing in the states. You can even get bare L92 heads for $277 each, if you want too much work. You'll probaly need a 90mm throttle body as well although there is a package with that in it too!

Although with the size of the inlet valves and cylinder diameter it won't work with an LS1???

Correct. CNC heads from AFR, Dart, TFS, ETP etc would be the go depending on requirements.
Though your max would be 400rwhp with an LS1 IMO.

Yep. The bore has to be >= 4.0" for those heads to work.

Mind you, I've heard Mastmotorsport do some square port heads that allegedly flow like an LS3 head and fit the LS1 block. Need to do some more investigation.

From what ive seen from the states, the trickflow cam/head setup that gives well over 500bhp (fly) with a decent intake on a stock bottomend LS1 works well, even though the cam is v.v.mild, too mild even.

What do people do regarding remapping the ECU? Is there a favoured unit in the UK or?

For road cars, I imagine the majority of people remap the incumbant ECU using EFI Live or HP Tuners.

Richard (Ringram on this thread) is the Efi Live dealer in the UK. A very helpful chap to know and he can do live mapping on ls1 pcm's with a Roadrunner unit.

For me it's either that or stand alone (DTA P8 Pro for instance) which may be preferred for retro installations. I can't make up my mind so I'm stuck with my ls7 ecu or a DTA. smile

ETA: Depending on your locality there's also Mark at Rapid GB somewhere in Northampton. He also uses Efi Live and has his own rolling road so can map on the rollers.

Yeah take a look at efilive.com for some ideas on whats possible, free download and you can check out tunes at www.holdencrazy.com

I got my stock LS2 to 360rwhp with just rockers and gained 50rwhp by just getting fueling right in my current setup.
