I'm going to look at a Wedge (280i) in Selston near Mansfield on Saturday and I was wondering if anybody knows a mechanic around that area who can give it a once over? I've never owned (or even driven) a Wedge before and no matter how many buyers guides I've looked at I would be much happier if someone who actually knows what they're looking for is able to see it. I'm not looking for a freebie - it would be money well spent, I just don't know where to start!

Richard Thorpe (RT Racing) <http://www.rtracing.co.uk/content/about.html> is a wedge specialist who is based in Sheffield, he is an all-round good guy and will advise you on a good mechanic in the area.

When you get the car (or whichever wedge you finally choose) you will need to get to know Richard for parts etc.

scratchchin My mate Paul C. had a 280 drophead in Mansfield, wonder if it's his car? Used to be bright yellow. Think it had Rover grey leather seats fitted.

This one's a green hardtop. A bit more subtle than bright yellow!

hi sphs2, the contact Russ gave me was able to help me out but thanks for the offer, much appreciated. Russ, thanks again, 'all round good guy' is an apt descripton!

There are other options of course. Like most motor factors...

Going to look at a Wedge - need advice

My advice is don't foolishly run out and buy the first wedge you see.
I made that mistake, paid far more than its condition warranted and am
now paying for it big time.

I've promised myself I won't do that! That's why I'm looking for a mechanic beforehand otherwise I know I'll be overcome by the sound of the engine and buy the first one I see.
