Evening all,

I've noticed my tailgate seems to be rattling like a good'un at the moment, especially over rough roads (not too bad on smooth ones). I'm not sure if it's the tailgate itself moving around, the rear window or the tool-kit trim or a combination of all but it's starting to get on my wick irked

Anyone else had this & if so what did you do to get things all quiet again?

Cheers,

Steve

Never had an E39 but on the E36 touring there are a pair of rubber stops that screw into the tailgate and can be adjusted to hold the tailgate in firmly when closed. If yours has these then try turning them out a bit.

Thanks, Richard - I'll take a look and give it a try smile

Had a look at the little rubber bungs near the tops of the rear lights, took them out and cleaned them up a bit and refitted. I think I might get a new pair though as some shrinkage is evident. But the main culprit seems to have been the tool kit hinges not being seated properly. Now all back together and the tailgate area is a lot quieter than before.

Thanks!
